Ghost 15.0 disk replace and clone in windows XP

I have 2 internal SATA disk drives, on my XP system. My primary C: is  a 250GB Samsung which is failing and my secondary - D: is also a 250GB Samsung SATA.

My aim is hopefully to use Norton Ghost 15.0 to clone/copy the contents of C: primary to a new larger 1GB SATA Samsung installed temporarily on D:. I don't want to have to re-install the OS and all of my programs if at all possible because it's a pain. I don't care about my data files since they're all backed up and offline.

I installed the 1GB drive, formatted and assigned it and then attempted to clone all of C:\ to D:\ , letting Ghost 15.0 erase/clone over any existing data on that empty drive as is warned about.

Everything seemed to go fine until it was just about finished and then the system reported it was unable to finish due to some kind of error. However when I checked, it seemed like everything was indeed cloned successfully. HOWEVER, Now my D: drive, which was indicating about 980GB total used/unused capacity - was now indicating only about 225GB total which was what the older drives were showing.

What went wrong, and where do I go from here? My XP is running SP3, I had 2 total internal and 1 external drive through my USB which is a 500GB WD drive I use for backups using Norton.

When I look at drive assignments/letters, the drive looks fine - but when I look at "My Computer" - "Properties" - it now only shows the 225GB total.

Any Ideas?
