mangalores, I'm confused. How did you get Win7 onto the Dynamic disk and create 5 partitions?

Well, technically it is 4 as the 100MB in the start are claimed by the same partition as the rest of the disk in the back..

Overall I had a BIOS error shoot my RAID 1 in a rather nasty way more than a year back and to fix it I did some pretty low level hackery with a disk repair tool because essentially the RAID was invalid and the BIOS wouldn't let me boot from the still functioning hdd as it identified the RAID but saw it broken but didn't allow any fixing either  (I kind of reset the raid disc to tell the system it was a normal disc once again. It was one wacky hellish system hiccup). I don't rule out that this created the strange setup.

I fixed my issue with a GParted system disk today. I'd guess being a self contained boot disc means it can do the low level clone without the hassle of the running OS getting in the way. It was done within 15 minutes. Just had to run Win7 disc to restore the MBR and set the partition to system and then slowly added the drives after checking the SSD, ran the system and the drive was properly aligned.

Currently looking good. When I find the time (aka never ;)) I'll probably clean up the dynamic disc.

Thanks for all the input and hopefully this will help others!

mangalores,

Great news and thanks for explaining about your system.
