Ghost 15: Doesn't start missed backups when returning from Hibernation (W7 x64)

Hello,

I am posting this new thread as AllenM proposed in this posting (he started looking at this issue):

http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/Ghost-15-not-automatically-running-backups/td-p/209263/page/2

My situation:

Using Ghost 15 with SP1 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Ghost does not ask to perform missed backups when returning from hibernation. The Ghost tray icon only reminds of missed backups when Windows was fully restarted before (which means tray icon is newly started).

As I used Acronis TrueImage before this behaviour is very strange as TI was capable of also starting a missed backup when it returned from hibernation (= computer was powered down at the time the event was scheduled to happen).

There is a Ghost windows service running and I cannot understand why Ghost is not able to check in intervalls while Windows is running whether there are missed backups.

This is very disappointing. In the Acronis scheduler there is an option "Perform the task later when system was powered down" - this would solve the problem in Ghost.

As mentioned I am using SP1 and also re-installed Ghost and deleted and re-created my tasks again but this didn't change.

The analyst from the support chat was quite funny:

analyst: it will ask only when you restart the computer.
...
analyst: If you want to run the missed backup please open the Norton Ghost and then open the defined backup.

This made my laugh! If I need to start the missed backups manually then there is no need for a task scheduler at all. :smileymad: Ghost should be able to complete missed backups no matter if it was shut down or in hibernation mode.

Second problem which AllenM already acknowledged: When restarting completely and the Ghost message window appears to inform the user that backups were missed the system should then do the backup if I don't select yes or no (= doing nothing is understood as YES). This is what I the thread linked to above. This doesn't work. When the window scrolls down to the task bar without my user interaction nothing happens at all. The backup only starts when I select YES.

Cheers Bill

AllenM's posting as reply in the other thread:

HI BillMGreen,

Welcome to the forum. I have not tested hibernation in some time  but this should work. And as far as answering the prompt on missed backups, there is no question at all that if you don't respond at all it should proceed with the backup.

I just tested the missed backup scenario (not hibernation, just a simple missed backup) and found that indeed it did not run when I did not answer the prompt. This was definitely working earlier with Ghost 15 as I specifically tested this. An update was released for Ghost around the end of March and I suspect this problem may have been introduced with that update.

Please start a new thread on this issue for better visibility. I would suggest that in addition to the details you posted here, please include all of that in the new thread. Secondly, please mention my name in your new thread and indicate that I started looking at this issue. You can also provide a link back to this thread for completeness if you like.

I will try to test hibernation between now and this weekend. Hibernation is not something I normally use so please allow a few days for this.

Thanks

Allen
