First thing is I am trying to insert screen shots into this post but have failed miserably.

I am trying to tie in the files I see in explorer below for the F: external drive screen shot 1 to Manage Backup Destination screen shot 2.
Screen shot 1: Norton Backups folder of my external drive = 58.9 GB
Per screen shot 1 it looks like Ghost breaks up the base backup of v2i into maximum size files of about 2.096 GB.
Screen shot 2: Manage Backup Destination Recovery Point Set = 59.0 GB
Why does Ghost break up the base backup into smaller files?
Are smaller files of the base backup necessary?
From a file management point of view it would be much easier to see the entire base backup in one file and then tie in each incremental backup based on my schedule. I do the base backup on Sunday and incremental daily. This is a weekly schedule for backups. I have read that it is important to limit incremental. Does this weekly schedule make sense?
Any background on how this works is appreciated.
