i just got my ghost 15 disc and have the same problem as in the above thread. at about 95% of install the error msg is:" Failed to have success running InstallVSSProvider function in MSIInstallVSSProvider function." when you click ok it loads a few libraries and freezes. hitting 'cancel' it asks if you want to quit and when you say ok nothing happens. if you then go into task mgr and click end task for 'error' it gives the msg ' no mapping between account names and security ids was done', then continues to remove the install.
the administrator is shown as linked/shared with me; i am listed under 'users' with administrator listed there as well for me. the administrator's folders are empty , unlike mine.
as suggested i tried right-clicking and running autorun.exe as administrator, but the same error sequence occurred.
i then read thru this related thread:
http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=other&message.id=18108&jump=true
i have been following this with the same problems and following suggestions there have been able to install ghost from a disc under a 'test' user a/c with admin privileges, although still getting both the VSSInstall failure and the 'no mapping between a/c names and security id's was done' msg. using the referenced document i was able to install the VSS feature, but in trying to see "vssadmin list writers' in either 'test' or my user a/c, both receive the error 'you don't have correct permission to run this command. please run utility from a command window that has elevated administrative privileges'. yet both these accounts are so listed. i imagine this may be related to the 'no mapping' msg.
so i ran the security configuration tool found in the installed ghost program directory. there were three a/c there:
1.listed as Acct Unknown: a long series of hyphenated number strings beginning with S- in parentheses
2 listed as Administrators, with in parentheses (my a/c name\administrators)
3.listed as Users, with in parentheses (my a/c name\users)
my User a/c did not have full control permission as the first two did. after i gave it full permission, running vssadmin list writers still gave the same error ' you don't have correct permission level etc.'
i removed permissions from the 'ACCT Unknown' but i still got the same error msg running vssadmin from my user a/c. does anyone know what that Unknown a/c is about?
i did run a b/u to an external esata/usb drive, which seemed to work ok. when i booted from the install/recovery disc it gave me the option to restore to that, so that seemed to be ok.
however, while it seemed to run a full b/u yesterday when started manually, when it tried to back up just documents as scheduled last nite it failed and i get the error 'snapshot %1 error EBA B0eF1: OS error 2147754774. that seems to be a common error as well in the forum.
what a hassle. i have nis 2010 running, which was installed prior to this ghost problem. machine is windowsx64 7 professional.
is it possible that it can run a complete c: backup or image and not be able to run just the scheduled document backups? ghost seems to have run both a manual and a subsequent scheduled full recovery b/u successfully; it looks like i could recall either of those, but i'd be afraid to try it.
separately, the driver validation tool came up with two errors:
1. wan miniport IKW v2
2. 2 micro integrated ms/mspro/xD controller
i don't think so , but could that have anything to do with it??!!
