Ghost 15 Performance Slider Not Working

I found a generic DOS (floppy disk) memory checker for my video card  " Video Memory stress Test" it showed the video card memory was fine.  I look everywhere and Nvidia or MSI do not have a video card tester, so I ran dxdiag64 and it did not find any problems.

Any other suggestions?

HI PaulGo,

Thanks for the update. No I'm afraid I don't but I will ask a Symantec rep to respond further with suggestions.

Thanks

Allen

There are a couple of ways to get to the performance slider.  Tools | Options | Performance, Advanced | Progress,  Performance, and by right clicking the tray icon.  Only the first method isn't greyed out when a backup job hasn't started.  Could you clarify?

Sorry for taking so long to respond, because of the snowstorm in the DC area I lost my internet (and cable).  I am using the internet connection from my cell phone.

As stated previously the slider does work if used before a job is started in the advanced tools menu.  However in the progress and performance box the performance slider is grayed out while the backup job is running.  If I adjust the slider in the advanced tool menu the change is reflected in the grayed out performance slider.  Also as previously stated the message states that the performance slider is disabled because no jobs are currently running -and this is in error because it stays disable for the full duration of the backup job.

I'm a little late to the game here but wanted to let you know my "Performance" slider has never worked to control the speed of any running back up since installing Ghost 15 on my newly built PC. This function works fine on my old PC, though (using Ghost 10).

I have tried reinstalling Ghost 15 and running the Fixinstall.bat file to no avail. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. I have an Intel Core 2 Quad 9400 processor with an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard and 4GB RAM. One thing I see in common is an NVidia based video card. My video card is an (Asus) NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT.

Since this has become a "documented" problem on some systems I hope Symantec comes up with a solution.  I seems a little wierd that Ghost has so many dependencies for something that looks simple (such as a working slider).

The thing about the Nvidia vidio card is originally the slider did work with this video card (Ghostn 15).  And as I stated it stopped working and I then got it to work againg by doing an re-install to Ghost 14 under windows Viista 64.

Both the recent Ghost update and installation of the latest Nvidia drivers (both chipset and video) did not resolve this problem.

Slider not working for me either after update.

Could everyone update the thread with their video card and motherboard manufacturer?  We will need to obtain some logs, but we would like to start with some hardware info.

Thanks for taking interest..

I updated to the newest nvidia driver version 8.17.11.9745. Still no working performance slider. Wierd thing though. Just for the heck of it I installed Ghost 15 in a virtual environment of Windows 7 Beta 32-bit. The performace slider works there. I might try a 64-bit install in Virtual PC to see if the slider works there. I'll post back the results if this works.

redk,

What display driver does VM use?  I would expect a different driver to be used.

You are correct . Virtual PC uses a different display adaptor. Also, you cannot install a 64-bit OS in Virtual PC.

I can't believe it, the performance slider is now working! Unfortunately I'm not 100% sure what I did to fix it. There were a couple of errors in Event Viewer and after I fixed them, I cleared the log. To fix one of the errors, I had to open a command prompt as administrator and enter "lodctr /r". Then there was a service that was not started automatically. I *think* it was RemoteRegistry. I set it to start automatically instead of manually. I am no longer seeing the error in the Event Viewer and I noticed tonight, as Ghost was doing a backup, the performance slider was enabled and working! I'll let you know if it stops working again. Meanwhile it may be worth looking at those two things or any other error that are in the Event Viewer log.

Edit: Here are the links that fixed one of my problems. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd363642 and http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd363694

I am pretty sure this fixed the slider.

In a strange way, that kind of makes sense.  I would be curious to know if anyone else who is having the issue with the performance slider sees a 3011 or 3012 event as well.

I looked at my wife's computer last night (her Performance Slider has always worked). The Remote Regsistry service was set to manual and not started so I changed mine back to manual and rebooted. My Performance Slider is still working after stopping the service.  I think it was running "lodctr /r" from the command prompt the fixed it.

I was leaning more toward the performance counters index as being the problem as opposed to the remote registry service.

I also have been cleaning up some event viewer errors - nothing to do with the performance counter.  I don't remember exactly what I did but to eliminate some errors I switched some services to delayed start and possibly one or two to manual.  I know after I installed the service pack one to Ghost 15  the slider was not working but since I let Ghost do automatic backups once a week I don't check the slider that often but I just checked it and it is now working!

That looks 2 for 2.  Glad to hear that it's resolved.  The unfortunate thing is that we don't know which exact steps resolves.  It at least gives direction if we hear other reports of this in the future.  Thanks.
