Ghost 15 recovery and RAW disks BROKEN

I wasted about 5 hours today trying to recover my system using Ghost 15 Recovery CD. It does not work when your disk is lacking partitions or file systems. I found this thread, that lead me solve the problem:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Other-Norton-Products/booting-Northon-Gost-15-original-cd-or-SRD-cd-not-always-works-a/td-p/235013

I was going to reply there, but it is locked.

These are the steps I followed and why I know it is broken.

2 disk RAID0 stopped booting, making funny noise.

Removed defective disk and replaced. did not recreate RAID0

Booted with Ghost Recovery CD

Ghost loaded fine, selected proper backup file, but did not see the drive I added in order to restore.

Rebooted into partition manager, and recieved errors regard disk1 (replacement drive). It had some old, likely corrupt partitions from a previous system.

Deleted all partitions from Disk1, wiped MBR, rebooted Ghost Recovery CD

Ghost would not load, giving this error over and over.

"Windows - No Disk. (X) Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x757C92A0 0x00000004 0x757C92A0 0x757C92A0"

Tried multiple attempts at deleting, partitioning, formatting disk1 with various tools, still would not load Ghost.

Disconnected disk1, and deleted all partitions from disk2 (other half of original RAID0). Ghost would not boot.

Found the above mentioned thread, and decided to try an old version.

Booted Ghost 12 CD. Loaded fine, restored fine, booted into windows fine.

Rebooted using using Ghost 15 CD. Now booted into Ghost fine.

There is something wrong with the Ghost 15 CD. It will not load if it does not like something about a disk in your system. Primarily a lack of writable partition and file system is my guess.

100 kudos for your post. You have my full sympathy :smileyhappy: because i underwent the same §$%& with Ghost 15 CD!

I cant believe that there is still so much room left for improvement with the Ghost product (which nowadays is CLEARLY based upon the robust POWERQUEST DRIVE IMAGE technology). All of us (the whole world!!) were great fans of PQ DriveImage. When i now ask folks, they have all switched to using Acronis (but they're unhappy with it ;-).

Actually i have deleted Ghost from my HDD and will google for it again only when colleagues begin to switch back (from Acronis to Ghost) and recommend it.

Acronis (and Paragon, for that matter) are not recommendable either.

But currently the better engineered products (and still with flaws) than Ghost 15.

Ghost 15 is a catastrophe. A real failure.

I would fire the whole development department (where is that? China? India?).

Quality product is something else!

(hehe.. what a nice slap into the face of Symantec's manager and responsible.. hehe )

To make matters worse, Ghost will not work any  more. After a successful recovery using Ghost 12, I tried to run my System Drive backup. It fails.

I tried a repair install, an uninstall/reinstall. I keep tgetting this error:

-Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. PRECONDITION failed, LocalProgress::LocalProgress: .\LocalProgress.cpp(56): estimate.mUnits >= 0.

(UMI:V-0-2987-19)

I've found a few threads with similar errors in Backup Exec, but I haven't spent too much time trying to troubleshoot. At this point I'm just going to uses the built in Windows 7 backup. Ghost has become too much of a hassle.

MD.

I thought I was have another go at fixing this new issue, but when I opened Ghost this morning I found that my scheduled backp of the C:\ drive had run successfully on its own on Wednesday. I'll keep my eye on it obviously, but it's very odd that it repeatedly failed when run manually, but then ran successfully on schedule. I don't recall changing anything.

Actually, while writing this I thought I would try and run another manual backup, and it FAILED.

-Error EC8F040B: Cannot create incremental recovery point of C:\ drive.
--Unable to create incremental recovery point.
---Error EBAB0013: A test that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. PRECONDITION failed, LocalProgress::LocalProgress: .\LocalProgress.cpp(56): estimate.mUnits >= 0.

What compression level did you use? Was the backup you are trying to restore made with Ghost 15? I found THIS DOCUMENT for error EBAB0013. Maybe it will help. Can you open the image (Recovery Point) with the Recovery Point Browser and verify the image?
