I copy images to DVDs for safe keeping. I limit the file size to 4300MB, so in my case two files are created. I make a folder for the image files that includes the computer name and the date in its name. When I burn the DVDs, I copy the image file folder to Nero; it has three files, ComputerName.sv2i, ComputerName_C_Drive001.v2i, and ComputerName_C_Drive001_s01.v2i. For the first DVD I delete the third file, and for the second DVD I delete the second file. Both DVDs, in the Image folder, have the first file plus one of the others. The image folder name includes the date of the image for reference.
I burn the DVDs on the computer I imaged, then I take the DVDs to another computer, also running Ghost, and verify the image files before I store the DVDs.
When I select the first DVD in Ghost 14, using Explorer, a window comes up that says the file is spanned on multiple removable media and browsing the file system may require many media swaps. It asks “Do you want to enable file system browsing?” I click yes and it reads the DVDs, browsing them or verifying the image. This works as expected.
Using Ghost 15, I attempted to verify an image I made in Ghost 14 on another computer and saved to two DVDs as described above. I know the DVDs are ok, as I verified them in a third computer running Ghost 14.
When I select the first DVD in Ghost 15, using Explorer, I get this message in an error window from Symantec Recovery Point Browser: “Error EC8B0022: Browsing this V2i drive is not supported.”
However, If I copy the first DVD to the computer using Ghost 15, and then copy the third file to the image directory from the second DVD, then Ghost 15 will verify the image for me.
The problem seems to be Ghost 15 assimilating spanned files on multiple DVDs and using “file system browsing”. It doesn’t seem to have a problem if the spanned files reside in the same folder.
Any assistance will be appreciated.
