Ghost 15, Restore Disk Doesn't Recognize USB External Drive

Running

Windows/7

Norton Ghost (V15.0.1.36526)

I need to restore my system from a previous Ghost backup but have a problem. The Norton standalone restore disk doesn’t recognize my USB attached external hard drive.   Ghost recognizes the drive and creates the backups fine when running in Windows.  I just can’t restore them.  Anyone else encountered this problem?

Brian you are a genius.  My external drive is USB 2.  It's a 500GB WD MyBook I bought 3-4 years ago for my previous computer.  When I got my current computer last February I plugged it into a USB 3 port without even realizing it.  Windows/7 has no  problem with it being on the USB 3 port, but apparently the Norton restore tool does.  I moved it to a USB 2 port, and the restore worked great.  Problem solved.  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

But the solution raises another question.  If I get a USB 3 drive some day and plug it into a USB 3 port will the Norton restore tool recognize it?

pitiful, no it won't.

Great news at present.

Thanks Brian.  Guess I'll stay away from USB 3 drives for awhile.

It might work if you plug it into a USB 2 port.

It won't work if it's larger than 2 TB (GPT HD).
