After installing IE9 today, I was quite pleased to notice that my Ghost 15, SP1, image of 130 GB only took about 2 minutes instead of the previous 45 minutes to write to my external drive. Plus, even large incremental backups are just seconds now. I believe that the new hardware accelerators that IE9 installed into my Vista OS have solved this vexing issue of Ghost being too slow in both acquiring data to be backed up and the actual transfer of the restore point to external media has now been solved. I hope others will see if this works for you. I did discuss this issue with Tech Support and the tech agreed that my backup file type and size was consistent with my backup.
