Ghost 15 still being Sold

Help.  I just bought and installed Norton Ghost 15.  It took twice to get it to work at all.  I had several errors installing.

BUT, I eventually got it to save a restore point.  Then, I tried to copy files, and it gave me an error as follows:

-Snapshot error %1.

--Error EBAB03F1: OS error 2147754774.

(UMI:V-0-1975-5)

And it gave me a link.  Followed the link and it told me to check for updates at the Norton Update Center, but there were not any updates.  It searched my computer and said that there were no Norton products on it.  Not good.

so, I am dead in the water.  Where do I go from here?  Any help  would be much appreciated.

John,

You should still be in the refund time frame. Buy SSR 2013 instead.

OK  Thanks

I just went to Amazon to order SSR 2013, and found that the only review of it to date was HORRIBLE.

I have tried Paragon, which I hate and can't understand how to operate, and I have tried Ghost, which does not work on my machine, and now I am referred to SSR, which has terribel reviews.

Doesn't anybody make a reliable drive imaging/backup software??????

One review????

We like SSR.

ME TOO! :smileyhappy:

One caution, if Ghost doesn't work then SSR may not since it is the big brother to Ghost.

John, don't panic,

now G15 is installed go to "Tasks" and run a "One Time Backup" that will safeguard your computer.

Files and folder backups are a bit iffy, we don't use that option.

Incremental backups of your PC is all that is required.

Like Brian said SSR is better but you will be ok with what you have got.

Deric

If you are running Win8 then you will need SSR.

Thanks for all the responses, guys.

I will re-install ghost and try again when I get back to my home.

In reading through the thread, it occurs to me that I may need to create one or more partitions in the 2 TB external drive that I am using.  Thoughts on that?

I don't use 2 TB drives but I am sure Ghost 15 can "see" it.

No need to partition the drive unless you want to.

Just create a folder on the external drive, eg. Backup 1 and direct the recovery point/backup into that folder.

You can also create folders for incremental backups, folders keep everything in order.

A HD must have a formatted partition before it can contain data. You only need one partition on a backup external HD.

Okay, I am finally back.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled Ghost 15.

Immediately after installation, it gave me an option to store a recovery point, and I did that.  It automatically went on to doing a file backup, but that failed again.

The event log shows that I have a good recovery point stored.  Now, If I go to Tasks - One Time Backup, the screen text says it is going to store a recovery point.  I don't need that, do I?  I already stored one.

Is there a difference between what I just did and what you are saying I should do?

When you install Ghost the main UI will appear and automatically want to backup with settings for a full backup etc. just cancel that option and close the UI.

When you uninstalled and re-installed Ghost that should have cleared the history, go to advanced tab and check that the history has gone. If not go to services and stop the Ghost service and then navigate to C:\ programme Data\Symantec\Norton Ghost\ History-schedule. and delete all the .pqh files and .pqs files (in any). To get to Services right click computer and manage and click on Services. Be sure to tick the box show hidden files and folders in "folder Options" and "View".

You can then restart the Ghost service or preferable reboot.

Make a folder on the external drive call it say "backup1" and then run a "one time backup" into that folder.

The OTB is a simple manual backup without any "complicated" settings and is a Full computer backup which is all you need at this stage.

Deric,

I apologize for being so high maintenance, but I do not understand the following reference:

"To get to Services, right click on computer and manage and click on services."

I see no menu item or other reference to "computer" or to "computer and manage".  Perhaps I need a different view?

John

John,

The computer Icon or computer on the startup menu, then click Manage.

Deric

When I open the program, the menu at the top includes the following pull down topics:

File   View   Tasks   Computers   Help

Under Computers, the options are Add  and   Edit List

Below the menu at the top are the following six ICONS

Ghost icon   Home   Status   Tasks   Tools   Advanced

I see nothing that I can right click on to get the options you give me.

Deric is talking about the Computer icon on the desktop. You can get to the same place by clicking Start > Run > Type "services.msc" [enter].
