Please provide any details about your CD/DVD drives and the disks you are using. Also, be sure that the drivers and firmware are up-to-date before trying this process again. Thanks!

the CD/DVD drive is a LITE-ON DVDRW LH-20A1P.  i haven't installed any drivers for it; XP must have done it?  or it was somehow "left over" when i re-formatted the C drive?  there was an 8 MB piece of the drive that didn't re-format, i think.

the disks are your basic discs you can buy at target.  sony CD-R 700 MB.

the first time i made a ghost image was 2 years ago, right after the system was completed.  i took it home, added some of my own software (Office, Photoshop, stuff like that), set some settings the way i like them, and made the image before doing anything else.  so i would ASSUME that all drivers were current at that point, because i watched them checking things at the shop, and saw them getting driver updates for some stuff.  the Ghost image appeared to finish fine, but when i went to use that image over this past weekend, i got the message that it was corrupt on the 2nd disk of it.  there were a few choice words floating around the room at that time!

so i re-loaded everything from scratch, and made another image.  again, it said it finished fine.  this time, i did a "check image" on it, and got the same message when i put in the second disk.

i can go look for an update to the CD/DVD drive though.  anything else?

If you can get ahold of different disks, ones that are recommended by the player manufacturer, that also might resolve the problem.

hi tony -

i checked and there was a firmware update for the drive that came out about 2 months ago. i got it, and, for kicks, loaded the Nero disk that had come with the system too (that WAS loaded for the first corrupt image).

tried to ghost again, and ta-dah, it worked! obviously, this update wasn't available 2 years ago, so who knows. my guess is that it was a drive issue that didn't actually get resolved until 2 months ago. i used the same brand of disks, and nothing else changed.

thank you very much for your help! :smileyhappy:

For the benefit of other customers, could you provide the URL to the site where you found the firmware update? If one person has a problem with this, Iā€™m sure there are many others who experience the same thing. Thanks!

suuuurrre...make me go find it again. lol.

okay, from this page on the Lite-On site, a person can use the 2 drop-down fields to locate their specific product:

http://www.liteonit.com/global/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=154

that's as close as i can get you. that will take you to a page with downloads for firmware, specs, and product manuals in various languages. if any are available, i suppose.

i tried to put a snag-it of the page in here, but don't know how.   anyway, you're right, maybe this could help someone else!
