Ghost back-up failed

Always with a short back-up (ten minutes) everything goes alright. Suceeded. When I make a large back-up (50 minutes) after 94% back-up fails (red cross). For the first time now the screen says W32/Win64 API DeviceloControl C10CTL_VSNAP_SET_SNAP_VOLUMES) failed.

What is going wrong? What do I have to do so I can make back-ups?

Hi,

Can you please post the complete error message? Verify if the error you get is something which is mentioned in this Knowledge base article

Also check if the source drive disk space is full or running out of disk space. Ensure that the source drive which is getting backed has more than 20 % free space.

Thanks,

The back-up is 30-35 GB to a 300GB external HDD free space 290GB. Just formatted and checked.

This is the error message I showed.

Hi,

How much free space do you have in the source drive? (I guess it should be C drive). There must be about 20 % free space available in the drive which you backup.

Ik back-up station E to external H = 300 GB

E = NTFS 47 GB in use and free space = 10,4GB total drivespace is 57,5

C= FAT32 3,5 GB in use and free space = 53,8 GB of total 57,5

One HDD two partitions

C is Windows 98

E is Windows XP

You said 2 x 5,75 GB = 11,50 free space. I checked services and they are okay. And there is 10,4. What can I do?

I made the same back-up and now it works. It is more than an hour and you can't say if it works or not, so it is impossible to work in that way.

Hi,

Here is what I understand,

You backup E drive (Windows XP) to the external H drive (300 GB). E drive has 10.4 GB free space out of total drive size of 57.5 GB.

If above is correct then the free space available in E drive is ~ 18 % , which is less that than the required value of 20 % . So you may have to create some more free space in The E drive, do this by deleting unnecessary data or any program which you do not use any more.

Let me know if any doubts.

Thanks.

You can disable "monitor free space" by going to Tools, Manage backup Destination and unticking the box.

Deleting to get more space, is not possible. Maybe Partition manager? But does this work with FAT en NTFS?

Why?, all you need to do is manually delete the oldest .v2i files or disable monitor disk space.

Deleting back-up files on H: doesn't create more space on E: I'm working on it but I'm now writing/forum on my W7-pc and try to make more back-ups with my WXP-pc. It takes time.

I give up. Ghost can't do the job. I worked two days til the night 03:00 a.m. and no solution. Now it is error EBABO3E9 of EBABO3F1.  Why does a program works for more than a hour 70-80 minutes and comes at last with errors. Why does'n't it check first, can the program make a back-up?

Thanks everbody for helping, but as in the past, we can do nothing to solve the problems in Norton/Symantec programs.
