Ghost can't see the "C" drive where it's installed

Had a meltdown and replaced motherboard, processor and memory. Trying to get everything to play well together again is trying, very trying. Some details:

motherboard:   Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H

processor:   AMD Athlon II x2 3.51GHz

memory:  Corsair 2GB x2 and Kingston 2GB x2

OS XP Pro with all current updates

backup drive is a USB 1TB

widows sees everything

"C" & "D" are on an IDE cable to the mb

"A" floppy cabled to mb

"E" IDE cabled to an adapter card

"G" on same IDE cable

"F" USB drive

"H" USB drive

"I" USB drive

need to be able to see all drives from installed Ghost and also from the recovery disk

Suggestions?

thanks

Can you post a partinfo.txt?

Dick,

We need that partinfo.

Do you have 8 GB of RAM?

Brian,

Just a point, has he set it up in the bios properly because he has 2 drives on a pci adaptor card. I think if he enables just the primary drive C and the secondary drive D then Ghost should see them. He will then have an option in the bios to enable the other two, I used to run 2 optical drives in the same way and it got a bit messy.

Deric

Yes, I have 2GB x4

change the extension back to .zip

partinfo.exe is attached

the "D" is usually the CD\DVD drive with the PCI card drives as "E" & "F" then come the USB drives at "G", "H" & "I" with H being the backup drive. Nothing like haveing a really big mess and then turning it upside down :)

I'm sure Brian was asking for partinfo.txt

If you run partinfo.exe it will make a text file in the same folder, attach the text file please not the exe

my bad

never been in these waters before

this is the text file

Dick,

Your partinfo shows, "WARNING: Partition above extends beyond the end of disk."

That's probably why Ghost is complaining. Let's fix it with BootIt NG.

Download BootIt NG. There is a 30 day trial usage. Unzip the file and make a boot CD.

 double click makedisk.exe, next
dot in I accept the agreement, next
dot in Mouse Support Enabled, next
 dot in VESA Video, next
dot in Partition Work (Don't put a dot in Normal), next
don't choose any Default Device Options (if necessary, these can be chosen in BING), next
 leave Registration strings blank, next
select your CD burner drive letter (you can use a CD-RW or a CD-R disc)
 Finish

Unplug all of your USB HDs and flash drives otherwise you may get confused in BootIt  NG.

Boot from the CD....

the BootIt NG CD boots to the Work with Partitions window
Using the radio buttons on the left side of the Work with Partitions window, select the appropriate hard drive if you have more  than one  HD. (It should be HD 0)
You might see * Errors Exist * at the top of the window and an E next to your WinXP partition

Just let us know if that's the case or if no errors are showing.

Click Close on Work with Partitions, remove the BootIt NG CD, click Reboot.

More to come, depending on your reply.

Dick,

You can get by without the mouse. I see you are familiar with using Tab and the Hot-keys.The end of the partition needs to be cleaned up. Resizing the partition 10 MB smaller will only take seconds and will get rid of the partinfo error.

Here is a page on using the keyboard in BING. A mouse is easier but occasionally a USB mouse doesn't work. It is BIOS dependent.

Boot from your BING CD.

You are now on the Work with Partitions window

Select HD 0 and then your WinXP partition

Select Properties. Is there a Warning?

Enter for OK

Select your WinXP partition

Select Resize

Enter for OK

Tab to the new size field

Type in a new number that is 10 MB less than the Max Size

Enter for OK

Continue

The final WinXP partition size may be a few MB different from the number you chose. That's OK.

Enter for Close

Esc for Close of Work with Partitions

Remove the BING CD and Reboot (Alt Ctrl Del)

Can Ghost see your C: drive now?

Can you post another partinfo.txt?

Onward and upward

will report back after I complete this step

thanks much!!!

I think we have a solution!

the .exe had a 10/1/2010 date on it - the one from 10/23/2010 was gone

Ghost is seeing the "C" and i have reset the backup schedule so all is well there

thank you very much for all of your assistance

now if i can just get this thing to boot from a drive on the PCI card all will be perfect

those are my beta test drives :)

Dick, that is excellent news.

What do you mean by, "the .exe had a 10/1/2010 date on it - the one from 10/23/2010 was gone"? I'm confused.

Partinfo still shows errors with E: and I: partitions but the C: partition is fine. I wouldn't bother about the E: and I: errors if the partitions are seen in Ghost.

Used Windows search and found only the old partinfo.exe file

it appears that the file that I used to make the last partinfo.txt file is now among the missing

the attached file is from a partinfo. exe dated 3/3/2010

if you're confused, I'm completely lost :(

The USB drives are used for storage of reference works that I use at times in my studies

If the errors won't cause a problem then I'm all for using "it isn't broke, don't fix it" as a solution

I do have to thank you again for all of your help

I doubt that I can be of assistance to you but do feel free to ask if you feel I can help
