GHOST does destination drive have to be same size as origin drive for backup

I have a 1 TB hard disk on my pc, but have only about 50GB space used.

I want to back up my entire system to a spare hard disk, which is only 250GB capacity.

Is there a conflict issue please?

Additionally (if you can help here), the drive I want to backup to comes from an old pc, where one of the two 250GB disks was corrupted and I couldn't access it at all. Can anyone give me guidance as to which of the two drives below is the clean one, and which is faulty?

- disk (1) when connected through a box shows (on "My Computer")

     Local Disk E:     232 GB

did a Avira scan which showed 3 clean folders

opened the disk easily and there were 3 tiny (no size) folders with lots of no.s as titles (e.g. 954bb542ab38ac123e4fd3d17849!)

- disk (2) shows

Local Disk E:     [did not show any size next to it]

did a Avira scan (neurotic) which showed 0 files to scan

when I tried to open the drive it was slow, then "The disk is not formatted. Would you like to format it?" (I did not)

Thank you so much for any help here - the forums are fantastic places of knowledge!
