Ghost error messages

I recently purchased an external drive cabinet and drive and am using Ghost to backup my system. During a backup, I get the following message; "Unable to write to file". When I click on details, I get the following message, "unable to write to file. Error EBAB03F1: the semaphore timeout period has expired". I also get an error message in the progress performance box that says; "Error e7d100 if running job: Drive backup of (C:\) failed". Windows then displays a message that says: "Delayed write failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for the file I:\$mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere". Drive I: is my external drive. I do not have a network setup. I tried copying a file to the external drive using Windows Explorer and it worked fine.
