Also, if you bought the boxed Norton Ghost rather than the download, then the installation CD is most likely bootable and you can access Ghost by inserting the CD into the machine as it's starting up -- the same procedure that you'd follow if you bought the download and then created a rescue/emergency CD.

However, for either of the above to work, your system will need to be set to check for boot-records from CD-ROM drives before the hard-drive. It may work if the hard-drive is a higher priority than the CD if it's blank, or as you say has no OS.

If you put the disc in and reboot the machine, but nothing happens, you then need to check these settings.

If you're not sure about this, then you may find this site helpful.

Obviously it's just an example, but the option will be there if you need it, even though your screen may look different.

I am upgrading from an internal 80gb 2.5" harddrive to an internal 320gb 2.5" harddrive. I do not have a cable that will connect both drives to the PC in order to Ghost in that manner. I am able to ghost an image of the old 80gb harddrive to an external usb connected harddrive. However, how can I restore the image from the external usb connected harddrive to the new internal 320gb harddrive? Once I take the old harddrive out, I no longer have an operating system installed from which to run the Ghost software. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I use Norton 2003 and have always used an external floppy drive connected to the second USB port to boot the system.

You can create a bootable disk within Norton Ghost to do this.  I believe you can create a bootable CD also.

Don't want to give you any bad information, so I don't have any specfics.  Hope this leads you in the right direction

Good Luck
