GHREBOOT - Ghost 2003

WinXP, Ghost 2003

250Gb internal SATA hdd

External USB hdd

I started a Ghost backup to my external USB drive. Something I've done many times before.

Ghosts instructs me to restart my PC so that the image can be backed up. It reboots into the blue Ghost screen, pauses a long time, then drops out to a DOS prompt.

I reboot and get a menu, so select the restart into Windows option. The computer reboots, there's some text on the screen, a long pause, then it drops back down to a DOS prompt. The continues no matter what options I choose or how many times I reboot.

I eventually try to manually trigger the GHREBOOT from the c:\ghost subdirectory but get the same results.

There are some text files in C:\GHOST

There was also and err text file but it was size 0.

Is there a way to get my Windows back short of reformatting and losing everything I was trying to protect?

I looked for the indicated file and it wasn't there.

I then booted from a DOS CD with FDISK on it. From there I was able to switch the A)ctive partition from the DOS to the NTFS partition. A reboot and WinXP was back in business.

Thanks for the help.

Big thanks to others who suggested the use of FDISK.
