\\globalroot? cant be removed

Hi

I recently got a malware or virus, i dont know what it really is

but it says "\\globalroot\systemroot\system\32\hjgruiosmctjuy.dll"

i use windows vista too, i used AVG to scan for this and when i tried to remove it, i wouldn't let me because "Objects are located in a non-local drive" and general error came along with it.

Spybot wouldn't even start up, also,  I have Ad-Aware, when i do a smart scan, the globalroot things cannot be detected, and it says the comptuer is safe, but when i do a full scan, the scan won't finish, it stops midway around 55mins to 1 hour, my computer sometimes won't start but since i usually dont turn it off, and sometimes, it restarts automatically and says "system has recovered from a serious error" but currently, nothing quiet major. I got this thing about 2 weeks ago, when i didnt have AVG, and back then, right after i got the virus, internet wouldn't work, but msn could, i sent a screeshot to my friend, and he got the virus too, when AVG was scanning back then, it crashed several times midway, but since then, internet works perfectly, but everytime the AVG scans, the problems are still there, i thought the thing would be gone, but it's still there, now i regret for posting so late....

Please help, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and norton internet security

Ihatevirus:

As this is a Norton user to user help forum, one of the requirements is that you are a current user of a Norton product.  If that is not the case, you will need to talk to the support people at AVG.

http://www.avgforums.com/

I am currently using Norton Internet Security 2008

Ihatevirus:

Have you used the AVG removal tool to ensure that you have a clean installation of Norton.  Normally it is very difficult to Install and antivirus program when you have a resident rootkit.

Please run a Hijackthis log for us.

Should i remove both AVG and Ad-Aware right now?

You can't have both AVG (8) and Norton installed, big Conflicts.

Quads

If Adaware is the purchased Anniversary edition, it also has real-time scanning, which also conflicts.  When you run more than one real time scanner at the same time you leave yourself vulnerable to these problems.

Oh **bleep**, i didnt know that.......

Why is it tho?

Which one would you remove?

Sorry, im.. pretty bad at this...

Thanks so much for your time and expertise

I'm removing Ad-Aware for sure

it is the anniversary one

Sorry for the bleep by the way, i meant dang

If you have a current NIS2009, that is the only real-time scanner you can have running on your machine.  Adaware and AVG both have to go, and you will have to get the removal tool for AVG from their support site.  I gave you that link in my first post.  Antivirus engines are sticky, hard to get out and gum up the works when parts of them are left behind.

If you don't have a current running version of NIS2009, you might be better to seek assistance on the AVG forum.  We are a Norton site and as such bound by certain policies.

if i remove both of them completely… and leave norton internet security 2008, would i be unprotected for my system/pc?

First, you can update to NIS2009 for free, which is a much better engine.

Secondly, picture three baseball players trying to catch the same ball, which is what you are doing when you run three antivirus scanners.  One works best.  Use one of two on demand scanners like Malwarebytes and Superantispyware.  They don't run in real time.

Obviously three scanners did not protect your system.

You can download the latest version of NIS2009 here.  You might be best not to try to install it until after we get you sorted out.

You will be able to install it over top of the 2008 version.  Make sure the other stuff is removed properly or you will have further problems.

Hi again, thank you for your advice

i completely uninstalled Ad-aware, but

AVG 8.5 is still here, i used the avg remover(32bit) from the website, and i checked that my computer is in fact 32bit

however, AVG is still there, it gave me a log upon uninstallation, i don't know if that will help you. I will upload it

I forcefully shut down my computer after the required restart after uninstalling AVg because my computer was not giving any reponse, also a window popped up with AVG resident shield with the  "hjgruiosmctjuy.dll", except it is now in C drive, when i tried to remove the threat, a pop up showed me that if you try to forcefully remove it, the system may become unstable or crash, so i clicked no to removing instead.  I wasn't able to take a screenshot, sorry...

thats where i got the removal tool by the way

I will now download and install Malwarebytes now,

please approve this request for disapprove it

thank you very much

Another thing is that norton won't scan my computer, total items scanned is always 0, and i can't seem to stop the scan...

Upgrade to 2009? or .... is it due to the hjgru... thing?

Malwarebytes serves no useful purpose at this time.  It does not remove rootkits.  Norton can not scan partly because of the AVG and because of the rootkit.  Quads will consider what to do with it.
