Hi
I'm having problems with GMail, and I think it's an issue with Norton.
When I log into gmail, it took forever to load, and could only load the regular html version. I tried to add https://mail .google.com to the list of trusted sites, and disable IE's popup blocker, but now the page wont load at all. It looks like it is constantly refreshing.
I am using Internet Explorer 8.0, Norton Internet Security (trial), and Windows Vista Home Premium.
Could you help me to resolve this issue? Thank you =D
Mozilla installed and gmail worked from that browser.
The error message I see with gmail in Internet Explorer is "Some Gmail features failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem. If this problem persists, try reloading the page, using the older version, or using basic HTML mode. Learn More."

Norton does not have a web shield therefore it does not interfere with web based email.
The problem may be the mixing of the 2 programs IE and NIS. There is a toolbar in IE for NIS, and I don't have any other programs that affect the Internet in any way. What is meant by "web shield"? That seems like a synonym for internet security...
A web shield filters your browser content via Port 80. This will slow down your browsing. NIS does not do this. KIS does. So since NIS installs the same compents in IE as in Firefox I would say its only an issue with IE. You can disable the toolbar in IE and see if that helps but honestly with all the security holes in IE and would not use it.
Unfortunately, Mozilla is not an option. This is for my grandmother's pc, and she does not want anything but IE (can't teach an old dog new tricks).
That's cool about KIS filtering browser content, but I'm demoing NIS and getting the problem without KIS.
So, I will try uninstalling the toolbar(s). If the problem still exists, I'll uninstall NIS and see if that changes anything. I'll post back when I finish.
It does not matter what Grandma thinks. Teach her right from worong. Using IE is a thing of the past. Firefox with Ad Block Plus and No Script is more secure then IE could ever be.
If the smart screen filtre is turned on in IE, try turning tht off. It does conflict at times with Norton. You will find it under "Safety" in the menu bar

I've uninstalled Norton (and Yahoo toolbar) and I still get the same error with gmail in IE. I think that rules out NIS as the culprit. The next step is to uninstall IE 8 and see if the error exists for IE 7.
Outlook is on this pc, but that is for Grandma's email (@verizon.net). Gmail is for others who use the pc only sometimes. I've installed Firefox, but I'd still like to solve this issue with IE anyway. Grandma won't be using Firefox, and I don't want her to run into a similar problem in the future.
(four hours later)
I uninstalled IE 8 and the pc reverted to IE 7. When I open IE 7, a yellow bar on the top of the window reads "Protected mode is currently turned off for the Local intranet zone. Click here to open security settings." I tried to log in to Gmail, and got 3 new error messages (for 3 different popups at the same time).

There's something else... Grandma, somehow, in a fit of frustration with the printer, took it upon herself to reformat the harddrive or reinstall windows or something like that. I had to reinstall programs and recover files from a folder called "System Recovery files". Gmail worked fine before the reformat, but not since then. I wonder if something in IE or Windows got corrupted in that mess.
Maybe I should refer to the microsoft.com forums... but I'll keep you posted anyway.
I knew it was not NIS causing your issues.
