Hi,
I have the beta version of NMS installed on my phone and noticed that Staples currently has the full version on sale for less than Android market. My question is: if I buy the staples version, what is the proper installation procedure to follow so that I don't lose any of my settings or blocked call list from the beta version?
Thanks.
We currently do not have an option to export and import NMS settings from the Android Market versions to the Retail versions. I have past this option to the development team to see if this could be a feature in future releases.
Thanks for the reply. I previously requested import/export of the blocked call list, earlier this year, during beta. I must say, I was amazed that at least selective backup/restore of NMS settings wasn't included in the final app. More proof I'm getting old, I guess. ;-) Some thirty years ago, I was working on a platform with just 512KB total RAM and yet we had room enough to include at least rudimentary backup/restore of settings in our apps.
This functionality needs to be there. It isn't a "feature"--there are network routers that cost less that NMS which include the ability to backup/restore settings. As a user, having to manually reenter all settings makes me unhappy because it means the app is higher maintenance than it needs to be. As a Symantec stockholder, this makes me unhappy because it makes it easier for the user to switch to a different product--if you're forced to manually reenter all your settings just to do an "update", why not try the competition's product instead? It shouldn't be this hard to upgrade/update.
Hello, I have a similar question, so I am posting here. I had NMS beta on my HTC Evo 4G and the trial ran out. I do however have a annual subscription key from Norton Zone. I was unable to enter the key as it was showing the trial key and of course did not match it. I saw NMS Lite on the android market and went ahead and installed that and removed the old beta.
Now for NMS lite, there is nowhere to enter my key. The upgrade option only allows you to purchase a license, but not manually enter one. Can I not use my key? Is there a way to enter my key that I am not seeing? Thanks.
This is actually a different issue. NMS Lite makes use of the Android Markets in App billing. Google has not designed the system to accepts a key like our other products. The Norton Zone should have a link provided along with your key. That download will have an area to enter your product key in.
This is a follow-up to my original post. My beta version has just expired. I have previously purchased a full retail version of NMS, but before I uninstalled the beta, I thought I'd better copy down the latest beta NMS settings since there is no clean upgrade path from beta version to retail version.
Imagine my shock when I discovered that the "Call & SMS Blocking" button is disabled now. I can't view my current settings! :-( Is there some reason you're holding my settings hostage? I can't seem to view them without purchasing yet another license.
Did you download the latest NMS version available on the Android Market once your Beta expired? If that is the case, the Lite version the latest available NMS version available on the Market now and has Call & SMS Blocking disabled on the Lite version and is only available once you upgrade to the Premium version.
If you are unsure about what version of the product you now have, does the product also have Web Protection disabled? Also, could you please provide the build number from to the "About" screen by clicking on the device's Menu button and selecting About?
No I did not download nor install the LITE version. Again, this topic is about upgrading from the last beta version to the retail version -- apparently something Symantec didn't anticipate or wants to discourage users from doing. I just wanted access to some of my current settings so that I could manually reenter them in after installing the retail version.
At this point I doubt the specific beta version matters, as I strongly suspect that when a full version's license expires, it will also disable the Call & SMS Blocking list button just as the beta version did. My point here is that the app didn't disable access to, for instance, Menu->Activity_Log, but *did* specifically disable the "Set up Anti-Theft", "Anti-Malware", "Call & SMS Blocking", and "Web Protection" buttons on the primary UI. Only "Renew Now" button was enabled!! Not very user friendly.
I've given up and uninstalled the beta version and installed the retail version. But, I would like to request that this issue be fixed in all current and future versions of the app: when a license expires, please allow users to view *all* of their settings.
I'm sorry for your frustration. I have forwarded the enhancement request to not lock features and only disable functionalities to the development team. Hopefully we can see this as well as a feature to save user settings in an uncoming build soon.
