Google Chrome Not Set Up, but others ok

Desktop Computer running Windows 8.1:  Norton Control Manager panel>Internet Security Tab.  Chrome indicates it needs to be set up.  When I do this the window pops up and indicates its set up.  I confirmed they are installed and enabled, but will not change the status.  If I change my default to either Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge everything is good.

I have tried chrome as default in the windows default programs in the windows control panel.  Cleaning registry manually. (think I did it correctly)?  Uninstalled/Reinstalled Norton 360 twice.  Changing settings>firewall>program control for chrome to block and allow again.   I tried reinstalling chrome.

And multiple restart computers in between.  I am missing that one setting, but I just can't figure out which one it is.  Support wants to remote connect, but that is my very last resort.  Its going to be so simple I will kick myself.

Under the Windows Control Panel> Program Default> no matter what I choose will not change the Norton Controll Panel Results.

As I noted above, there is no connection between the Window default browser setting and the Norton browser setting.

You mention rebooting. Do you have the Windows Fast Startup feature enabled? If so, disable it and try rebooting again. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

If you do wish to try a reinstall, using a Windows Admin account, download and run the Norton Removal and Reinstall tool from  www.norton.com/nrnr   For best results, use the Advanced Options > Remove Only option. Then after restarting your computer, download a fresh copy of your product from your Norton Account.  Then be sure you run LiveUpdate manually a few times, restarting as necessary, until no updates are available.

I am not so tech savy to add a photo with the proper extension, but hopefully I am understanding correctly?  Thanks for the photo it helps.  Yes this is the control panel I am talking about.  The only difference is that when Chrome says not set up it will be in grey and also in grey it will say 'not installed' or nothing (I can't remember which one) after Banking Protection.  When 'Chrome' shows green just like internet explorer it will say 'installed'.   Likewise the three icons when you select the window that say password manager, password generator and extensions; the 'browsere extensions' can be selected, it goes into whatever it needs to and pops up that all extensions are installed and enabled.  Even if I am missing one of them.  The Chrome and 'not installed' still show in grey even after a reboot.  As for the Chrome webpage; when I search I do have the green checkmarks beside the search results.  Under the Windows Control Panel> Program Default> no matter what I choose will not change the Norton Controll Panel Results.  Currently when its working I have Custom Selected, use current Web browser with both Chrome and Explorer enabled for access.  I am not sure why it happened a second time after I was good for a couple of days and why it will effect certain users, but not others?  I just want to understand it and agin hopefully someone else may benifit from this?  Norton has worked great for me for several years and I don't want to switch, but if it happens again I really got to evaluate it. Live chat has never been able to really help in other issues in the past and it always escalates to remote access.  Exactlly what I am avoiding to protect the computer.  And most posts recommend a fresh reinstall if all else fails.  In this case Chrome is all I need to reinstall so its not to bad; just a nuisance.  Thank you for the help.

Are you referring to the default browser shown in the Norton interface?

IE default browser in norton.jpgIf so, that has no connection to the default browser set up in Windows. It just sets up the browser that will be used if you click on any links within the Norton product.

If you do not see the browser you want to use on this page, click on whatever browser is listed and choose the browser you wish to use. That should set up the browser for you.

Update.

It did it again.  All users showing ok.  My account will not show Chrome being up and running on 360 control panel.  Matched all settings as the other users (chrome and windows).  Removed the extensions and reinstalled....still didn't fix it.  Install Chrome again.....nothing.  Once again I had to uninstall chrome and reinstall it then all is good again; so I think the issue is with Chrome?  Anybody have any ideas?  The only difference is I noticed Chrome was enabled to run in the background with the Norton extensions.  I disabled that feature.  I can not be doing this all the time so I would really like to figure this out.

Thank you for the reply. I did do what you are describing...I been at it for the whole day.  It did get me thinking though and I was able to fix the issue I think.  Here is some info.  Maybe someone else may be having similar issues?

Running Windows 8.1 desktop software.  6 accounts for the family.

Uninstalled Microsoft Edge (not sure how it was installed). Uninstalled Chrome.  Uninstalled Norton 360.  Rebooted and let Windows take over.   Antivirus and that kicked in so I satisfied its Windows setting.

Reinstalled Norton 360.  Interestingly the icon on the desktop showed Norton Security until I rebooted the desktop.  Other accounts showed Norton 360 immediately.  (anybody have any ideas?)

I satisfied Internet explorer with the Norton extensions.  Then searched for the Chrome desktop download.  Installed it and chose as my default web browser.  Shut it down and installed the extensions using the Norton 360 control panel (classic view).  Also allowed sync as a setting. That seemed to set up everything again and everything is normal.

So now I am not sure if it was a chrome error or a Norton extension error?  If it occurs again I will update.

Hello

Have you updated Chrome to the latest version? A new version came out very recently. You have to restart the browser after updating it.  You also need to have Chrome set up as your default browser in windows.  You must use an administrator account. After doing this, stop off at the Chrome store and get the latest N360 extensions

Have a Good Night, stay Healthy and

Thanks.
