Why does NIS 2011 stop chrome from working

Hi North450,

There is something to consider. By the time NIS version 21, (if it had a year number, it would be 2014), is released sometime later in the year, (we don't know when), you would be 3 years out on using the most current Norton Internet Security. That's a big reason why the trouble with the Chrome browser.

Have a look At This Post from April. This was a major fix for Chrome users having toolbar and other issues. When I applied this, it fixed all of the Chrome issues I was having. This is a good reason to be current with NIS when using Chrome.

NIS 20.4.0.40 was just released in a phased manner. If you could upgrade to at least NIS 20.3.1.22 (2013), the Chrome problems might very well be cured.

Thanks

Even if norton is turned off firewall included the problems occurs

that is strange

as far as the toolbar who needs it.

Even though using a security product in which you still receive updates, that product is now going on 3 years old. With web browsers constantly being updated, it's more difficult for the older security product to keep up.

Users who were using NIS 2012 and Chrome together, had to upgrade to the current version in order for certain problems in Chrome to be fixed and function properly with NIS. This was back in March - April.

This is what Tony Weiss said to me back in March. Special attention to the 2nd line in the 2nd paragraph about using older versions. I upgraded and problems with Chrome were solved.

It's been a long time since I had NIS 2011 .. I guess in 2010 into 2011, so I remember hardly anything of it.

With a current valid subscription the upgrade is free.

the question is why       Even if norton is turned off firewall included the problems occurs

if this happens norton is controlling your system even if the nis is turned off.

other programs can be affected

Thanks

Does anyone know the answer .

Its a very simple question.

I am told I have to sign Google's agreement and license agreement.

This sounds like the EULA for the Google App Store. Your only option if you do not want to accept those terms is to not get any extensions/apps from the Google Store, and maybe use a different browser. It is just the world we live in.

Hi Karthikeyan,

1. Yes

2. No - for HTTP and HTTPS

3. Web monitoring is on "High: Block the website" - see screen shot

4. Yes

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

Please get us the below details to further analyze the issue.

  1. Are you able to see Norton Family tray icon in the task bar?
  2. Are HTTP sites getting blocked?
  3. Check the house rules in portal. If Web monitoring is in Monitor mode(Low) change it to Block mode(High). If you still face any issue, please attach a screenshot of the house rules in Windows
  4. Version of Norton Family installed in your child's Windows machine.
  5. Is the Windows account monitored for the same child for whom the house rules are set in Norton Family portal?

Thanks,
Karthikeyan

Hi Rajesh,

I have made sure the Norton Family extension has been added to the Chrome browser. Still does not block sites that I have explicitly restricted. Also, not seeing any activity for the last 7 days.

Any help would be appreciated.

Steve

thanks for all your help.......

Hi IanAndrew,

Parents will get notified when the child disables Norton Family extension.  We cannot prevent child from disabling chrome extension.

Thanks,
Rajesh

Ok cool done that and its working but what I have discovered is that he can simply disable this. His user is not and administrator. Anyway that I can stop this?

Many thanks

Hi IanAndrew,

Your kid may have removed Norton Family extension in Chrome.  Norton Family will send a notification mail to the parent whenever extension is disabled in chrome.  Please download Norton Family extension from Chrome web store and add it to chrome.

Thanks,
Rajesh
