Green Checkboxes

My Norton icon shows a green checkbox in the lower right corner. I noticed at some point that all of my .txt and .doc documents on my desktop also have a green checkbox, on the lower left corner. Are these related? If so how do I disable this feature and whatever it really does?  Do they have to do with Norton backup?

Earlier this year I noticed that Norton was backing up some of my files, I didn't know I had turned that on. I have turned it off but Norton still has over 2 GB of my data. There is nothing illegal there but I still don't want it floating out in the cloud. How can I confidently remove these files and prevent this from happening again?

The green checkmarks appear to be related to Microsoft One Drive  backing up your files. See the solution in this Microsoft Answers information.   https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/green-checkmarks-on-desktop-icons/6dd1784d-68c7-46ed-917c-e84bb92777fa

As you have turned off the Norton Backup feature, you just need to delete the saved files. Log into your Norton Account and look for the Cloud Backup pillar. Click on View Backup sets and find the sets you wish to remove. Click the trash can on the bottom right of the backup set to remove it from your cloud storage.
