Running Ghost 14 on Vista Sp1 , Compaq presario.

When I first tried creating a restore point backup I got the "Need to run under recovery envoir" error, found that in the Knowlege base and

fixed it with the regedit DL provided there.

Now when I go to run the restore point backup it gets about 10% in and comes up with "The Server threw and Exception" error.

Have tried multiple times to same effect.

Removed and reinstalled Ghost.

I'm just doing the backup " Out of the box" so to speak and not playing with any settings.

Backup is going to a removable drive _ G.

Any suggestions anyone, as things stand I have $70 of useless software and a laptop which I don't want to install to untill I get this restore point sorted.

Thanks

 Ok in order

This error would appear to occur at the same time.

Liveupdate Done

Mass of spare space on drive

Alias has been set in 1st installation.

I’ve had the same problem repeatedly at 25%. I tried the instructions using the run command and It doesn’t work a sit doesn’t accept CD to start with and doesn’t recognize the changes. The installation instructions say nothing about this. I read about Agent which I think its related to, but all seems well and It seems to recognize this as functioning. I tried reinstalling It to no avail. I searched the internet and many users seem to have the same problem. Trouble is It stops the backup entirely rendering the software useless for backing up,which is what anyone bought It for in the first place. My system resources include 500GB USB storage available, ultra fast 2 core duo processor and 4gb ram. It seems to be a software problem that amazingly after many months of being sold to the public Norton still seem to have either not resolved or at least they don’t make it easy to discover how to deal with It, if they do have a solution.

I still havn't resoved this issue,

have even tried restoring the entire laptop to no avail. As can be seen there was a response to the intial post but nothing since I replied ,

seems to have gone in (lack of) supports too hard basket

Did you run LiveUpdate first ?  I know there have been some fixes associated with Exception Errors. NGH14 is up to 14.0.2 now so that’s basically 2 service packs worth of fixes.

Have been running live update every time I try but will confirm tonight, Don’t have laptop with me at present but will tackle it again soon as I get home.

Hi Mikep6b,

I have sent you a Private Message, the yellow envelope () in the upper right corner of the Norton Forums. This message is requesting that you submit log files to us, so we can further analyze your issue. Please send us the logs as soon as possible. Thanks!

Ghost reports all warnings and errors to the Windows Event log. Could you look at the application event logs and check for any warnings/errors from Ghost, Ghost Service, V2i, Volume Shadow Copy Service, etc? Have you run LiveUpdate in Ghost until there are no more updates?

Could there not be enough space on the removable drive for your backup set? I'm sure you've already checked that, but we're trying to eliminate the most likely causes first before we delve into the odd ones. Also, is your removable drive setup within Norton Ghost with an "alias"? If not, I would recomend it before you begin a backup.
