I'm using NIS 2010 version 17.5.0.127 with Vista Ultimate and briefly mentioned this issue in another posting. The problem miraculously disappeared within a few hours then, but tonight is back. Instead of the GUI rotating after hitting the arrow to show my system performance figures for the last 3 months, a seperate new screen is opened instead and must be closed out manually as the arrow used to rotate the screen back has completely disappeared.
Anyone else having this minor but irritating issue? Actually, I'm much more concerned with something having possibly gotten corrupted after being updated to the latest NIS version.
It is expected that the "flip" arrow will not be shown if the "backside" opens in a new window. The flipping is dependent on DirectX drivers and Video drivers in order to perform the flip. If you are having issues with this, I would check to ensure you're using the latest drivers for your video card.
Does anything show disabled when you run dxdiag.exe?
Nope, everything is normal according to the Direct X tool. My NVIDIA 8600GT video drivers are only 6 months old and I purposely haven't installed the latest ones as my system has been working flawlessly as far as video apps go. As stated previously, this issue only began a few days ago and hasn't been a problem before. I've just downloaded the latest drivers for my video card a few minutes ago after reading your posting, but would prefer not installing them unless it's absolutely necessary. Yes: I can always roll back to the older driver, but that can sometimes cause things to possibly go awry.
Thanks for the input. While updating drivers is normally a good rule to follow, I'm concerned this problem is a result of some instability within the latest release of NIS 2010. Others seem to be experiencing various problems since 17.5.0.127 was rolled out a few weeks ago. Then there is also the issue I brought up the other day regarding the sudden occurrence of NIS not auto-blocking pings on my system as it has been doing for years.
i undertsand your concerns but i think this issue is related to the video drivers - especially if there are updates for your drivers and you havent applied them yet.
its easy to blame it on the update because there are other issues with it but so far no one else has reported this issue so i think its something specific to your system - like the video drivers.
it won't hard anything to update drivers for the video board. if you want to see if it fixes the issue you could try it out. it will at least help narrow down where the problem is.
the reason the options are read only (or not enabled) but it still works is becuase you need to modify them and set them to block but if you do that other connections may not work (this is a firewall after all)
however, we shoudln't talk about that here as its a little off topic. as for your performance side window issue - hopefully youll try my suggestion if you want to get it working

Unfortunately, just tried the performance arrow only a few hours after installing the latest graphic card drivers. Initially it worked fine, but I'm now back to the same old problem once again. Think I'll just wait until a new NIS version is released which fixes some of the concerns documented on this forum. Perhaps my issue (which is minor compared to some other problems voiced here) will be rectified.
also it looks like your post about the ip pings is normal...
Don't want to resurrect the other off-topic problem under this thread, but if you don't mind me asking: What exactly is normal about my post in question? I wouldn't consider it normal behavior for NIS to suddenly not be blocking pings automatically, a feature the program has had for a few years now. I've tried numerous other times since my posting the other day and still continue failing the ping portion of the GRC test. While allowing pinging on a system isn't exactly a show-stopper, something has obviously changed. Wouldn't you agree?
