Hi. About two weeks ago, my computer froze up for about 1.5 hrs on bootup. After rebooting and retrying 3 or 4 times, it said it was configuring 3 Vista updates and then successfully did a full boot. Ever since then, my hard drive is constantly spinning whenever my computer is on. The part of the machine where the hard drive is located gets extremely hot as well.
When I look at task manager, csrss.exe and winlogon.exe have no descriptions on them. I'd assume that since these are supposed to be MS processes that they would have descriptions on them, so that seems a bit odd to me.
Also, when I try to run a disk defrag through Vista, it never ends. I will go on for days. When I try to run it through Norton 360, it tells me that it has deferred it because the drive is busy.
I hate to sound paranoid, but to a mid-level user like me, this sounds virus-y.
Any help you can provide would be awesome.
Thanks!
