Have I been scammed by Cynate Anti-Malware (Cognus Technology)

I had let my Norton 360 expire and wanted to upgrade(if that the term) to Norton Security de Luxe (for up to 5 devices). I was a bit uncomfortable at dumping a +-£70 renewal & changing to a +- £35 newer version of Norton so rang support to ask if it was OK  and not a bit of a cheat. A guy called Christopher (very heavy accent, Indonesian perhaps,  replied and said that it was absolutely fine and to give him access to my laptop and he would install it. After some short time he produced a document showing (apparently) that I had 683 (or close) trogens  on my laptop - I had heard of them but thought they came in ones or twos.  He said it was desperate and that he could deal with it. He then put on to my laptops remote control a technician called Sunil who was to remove all the trogens and install the Norton Security de luxe which had been my initial request. He also installed Cynate Advance Anti-Malware which he said was essential to prevent the return of the said trogens and told me the price was £95.99, which included +- £35 for Norton Security de Luxe, which I paid on my cr. card. After he was finished the tech. typed a note to say that I was not to worry that the recipient of the card payment would not be Norton but Cognus Technology, that it is OK and Norton knows about it.   Later, thinking about it I felt that there was something OFF about it so I phoned support again and was told that I had been scammed so I told that one that I was going to try to stop the payment.  Later, I phoned support again and spoke to a person who sounded perhaps Canadian, said his name was Joe and (which the others had not) gave me references for the call.  He said, at a rough description, "tough luck lady, you were not speaking to Norton on either occasion and you were scammed and it's your problem, not ours." Later. I phoned my bank to try to stop the cr.card payment and the bank person had a minor fit, especially at the remote control business, so my internet banking was suspended and my credit card cancelled as the details were or could possibly be in the hands of scammers and I was told to get a Computer Tech to go through the laptop to be sure that there was no more nasties hidden on it before I could get my accounts opened.  To cancel a Cr.card transaction is really difficult if you receive the goods AND an invoice my bank says. I did have a download of Cynate Anti-Malware and also of the Norton product, tho' the computer tech deleted the Cynate as he "wasn't sure of it".  Yesterday morning I received an invoice from Cynate not showing the Norton item, but the full value to Cynate. So it seems that this is a scam against Norton as well as against me, though I have no doubt they will come after me to pay it twice, once to the scammers and once to them.
