Have Virus - But it kills Norton AV 2009 - unable to remove

Hello All,

I have just got some sort of virus.  This happened on 17 or 18 March 2009.

I am running Windows XP, SP3 with Norton Antivirus 2009.

The Norton program will not run in the Safe Mode. I have tried to connect this system to Norton's help and AV service, but the virus kills and locks the computer, preventing the Norton rep from logging in to my system.

Here are the symptoms: I need to press the reset button to reboot the system.  Once rebooted I can log in.

The system will lock/stop after about 4 to 5 minutes on its own, if I just sit there and watch the computer.

If I run a virus scan, the program runs for a while (3 to 4 minutes), it finds something, then the "One Click Support" dialog opens,

and says it is trying to access the Norton URL.  Just before this dialog appears, I can see the Norton Yellow Logo/Icon flash red.

Then it get a "Red X" - the system locks, and is extremely slow in responding, then the PC internal speaker beeps once, and everything is locked up, no keyboard, no mouse, no nothing, no control-alt-delete, etc.  The only way to recover is to press reset or turn the system off.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks,
