Have virus with phone number 844-xxx-xxxx flashing on screen

Family was using one of our computers, when Norton failed ... it went to a screen with a black background, icons of all Windows programs, a blue box with "Call for support +844-xxx-xxxx", a white box with some fine printing that basically said you better phone, and the biggy was a computerized female voice repeating: "Important security message, your computer has been locked up, your IP address was used without your knowledge or consent, to visit web sites that contain identity theft virus, to unlock the computer please call support immediately, please do not attempt to shut down or restart your computer, doing that may lead to data loss and identity theft, the computer lock is aimed to stop illegal activity , please call our support immediately".  Running a manual Norton check now on that computer, and using another to check here on Norton, so far not finding anything about this.  I did just check online phone number sites, most all warn about the phone number listed.

As SoulAsylum noted, these type of browser hijackers contain JavaScript code that executes in your browser. This code is often found in malformed ads on the web page you are visiting. So as long as you do not click on anything on that page, nothing is actually downloaded to your computer. And the code is removed when you close your browser.

If you have already run the scans suggested above, and nothing was found, you might try installing an ad blocker in your browser. They can block this kind of browser redirect.

Hi, do you try Norton Power Eraser ? https://support.norton.com/sp/fr/fr/home/current/solutions/kb20100824120155EN_EndUserProfile_en_us

Hello vmk. In actuality your browser had code injected into it which Norton indeed stopped from running on your system. Nothing more than a drive by scare tactic that is more and more frequently used on the internet. Had your computer actually been infected and locked down you would not have been able to run a system scan with your Norton product. Download and run Malwarebytes to check for any resident PUP's residing on the system. Let us know how you made out.
