i wanted to know why it asked me to activate the program again today?

it said the program would stop working completely in 15 days if i didn’t activate it so i did. Will it still protect me from old threats? I still didn’t resubscribe.

Are you sure that 'it' was indeed the NIS2005 that asked the question?

or was it "AntiVirus2008" or "AntiVirus2009"?   both of which have nothing to do with Norton, and both of which are actually malware asking you to activate "it" meaning, it pops up a box and tell you that you need protection, makes you think that clicking will help... but in reality clicking just infects your machine....

um the norton thing popped up and my firewall or new antivirus would’ve blocked it if it was a virus.

It’s more than likely that one of two things happened to cause the activation notice to appear – something changed about your system or a licensing fix was applied. If you didn’t manually run LiveUpdate before this notice, than it probably is the former. Certain hardware changes can make it appear that you’ve moved the software to a new machine and you have to go back and reactivate it.

well i recently a few days ago got a new internet service provider could that be it? I

No, that shouldn’t be it. I wouldn’t be too worried about it asking for a re-activation though.

thank you very much.

Well i have Norton Internet Security 2005 and it came with my computer when i got it 3 or 4 years ago. The subscription is expired a long time ago and i never resubscribed. Is it still supposed to work? It asked me to activate it again today so i did but i didn’t subscribe again. Why would it ask me to activate it again? Is it still supposed to protect me from older threats because it does.

It should still be protecting you from threats that existed during your current subscription period...which you state as ending "a long time ago". This should not be reassuring to you, however, since probably thousands of malware programs have been created since that time. What did you need help with, and what are you trying to do?

If you are looking for current products from Symantec, I would recommend Norton Internet Security 2008.
