Hi I have an ASUS Notebook M51Sn with Vista Ultimate. The computer has two partirtions. The computer crashed and since then have tried everything to recover the data. I even let a computer shop try and they could only see the second partition, not the main one that had 90% iof my data plus Vista OS. Will Norton Ghost recover the main partition even though it wasn’t instatlled? Regards Colin
Hi AllenM What I was asking (not very well, sorry) was would the Ghost recovery disk recover a partition (the one with Vista installed) even if Ghost had not been previously installed. As it turns out, I managed somehow to partly restore the partition, enough to see the drive C and for the repair to recognise Vista was installed even though I couldn’t get a good repair done. What I have done, after using xcopy from CMD prompt for all data on C, is to install Windows 7, which I have just finished. So, I think I am OK now, but thanks anyway kp
Hi Colin,
It is not so much a question as to whether Ghost was previously installed but as to whether a backup was performed on the old drive for all of its partitions. As long as backups were done, then you do not need to have Ghost installed to do the recovery - this is all done from the recovery environment.
Note that Ghost 15 can also do backups from the recovery environment even if it is not instlalled.
It sounds like you not not had done a backup before the hard drive crashed?
Main thing is that you have your system recovered but just wanted to help explain what the process is in case you are ever faced with something similar in the future.
Allen
