Is there any way to do this succesfully without destroying or having to reinstall NIS 19.9.1.14, I am running XP Thanks...Gorpy1
From my experiences I would say it is possible. Right after the system restore it will be red, and you will have to run Live Update manually. But that's possible too that you have to reinstall the whole product.
It always depends on how old the restore point is (how many registry changes were made, etc.).
if u cant resolve issue on here norton has a premium tech serive availabve 247 there a first time $40. set up fee after that only $20. monthly excellent service
I use to be able to do it in safe mode, and it would work after turning off a feature.......I'm only wanting to go back 2 days and I don't feel I should have to pay for it after already paying for the product..but Thanks........Gorpy1

I think the setting you're referring to is the tamper protection, you should turn it off before using system restore, and then turn it back on.

Yes, you are right about that! :)
Hi GORPY1,
Do not pay for someone to do something this simple.
First thing, export your ID Safe data to a safe location so you can get it backif the need arises.
Unless things have changed since I last used System Restore, turn off Tamper Protection as tbalint444444 stated. Do your system restore, (using Safe Mode I do not believe will save anything Norton-wise that is not saved in Normal mode.
If you go back only two days, chances are things may be able to be caught up via LiveUpdate as PaupauZ stated. I am curious as I just used my Vista laptop this past Wed for the first time in a week and I got an update for NIS 2012 that required a reboot - so I do not know if you alreadyhad that prior to the restore point you are going to use. The reboot required update may cause you to remove and reinstall.
If you must remove and reinstall, you will not be able to use the NRnRT as that will load NIS 2013(v 20), so it'll have to be a Control Panel Removal (Add/Remove), please select Option 1 (save settings). I would suggest using the Norton Removal Tool and then reinstall NIS 2012 from here . Of course you'll have to run LiveUpdate (rebooting as requested) until it responds "no updates found".
Rememeber to turn off Auto dowonlaod of new version.
FYI, the last time I went through this using Option 1 and then running the NRT, NIS automatically reconnected with my Local and Online Vault that I had in my previous copy of NIS 2012.
Let us know how it goes.
Yes It was Tamper Protection, However I'm wondering if it's worth the try (even in safe mode) to correct a simple DLL error message after installing Nuance pdf reader and then removing it,yesterday..It should be called Nuisance pdf reader..Thanks, Every thing else seems fine Thanks, All.....Gorpy1
Hi GORPY1,
If Nuance uninstalled with no issues and you are not experiencing any system problems, there is no need to resort to System Restore. System Restore is intended to roll back system settings when something has gone extremely wrong. In your case, it was a simple issue with a dll file that was not cooperating. If you aren't getting errors now, then there is nothing that needs fixing.

Hi SendOfJive, Nuance and all the little software with it uninstalled fine, However Now at startup I now get a brief DLL Error message regarding a spool driver that can't be run, If it's all right I'll screenshot the error message soon. I just click the o.k. icon in it and it goes away.....Thanks, Gorpy1

Something to check -- START / RUN / msconfig > Startup TAB and if anything seems to relate to Nuance uncheck the box and see if that fixes it warning.
Tried That, Apparently Uninstalling This application has created problems with others, I guess their's No way to assure a system restore w/o affecting NIS 2012, though in the 5 years I've had Norton their use to be, Oh well, I may or may not give it a shot....Thanks, Gorpy1
Instead of a System Restore you might try the System File Checker
You say Nuance but which program are you uninstalling? Paperport? Dragon? .... ? And which version.?
Nuance PDF Reader even so I tried to decline all the optional software (it installed some shopping default search to my browser and a few other apps, I removed all of them from add/remove programs rebooted but some how it corrupted some dll (spool driver), I only get the error message at startup...........Thanks Gorpy1 P.S What is system file checker in xp, I did a diskcheck to fix file errors..zip
<< What is system file checker in xp, >>
See: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310747 .
Do you have CCleaner? If so have you tried running that to clean out temp files etc and to check the registry?
I would do that and in checking the registry I would not automatically mark for deletion all that it may list but look for entries that could relate to the Nuance PDF reader and from something I read Nuance may use some files with DocuCom in the title.
If you found any of those I'd unmark all the boxes for registry entries and just mark those for Nuance or Docucom . Say yes to back up the registry first.
Then in CCleaner I'd look at Tools / Startup and once more look for Nuance, DocuCom or PDF and Disable any of those.
PS You could also look in your browser Add-ons for any references to Nuance or Docucom
I Can't believe it! I did a system restore w/ turning off then on Tamper Protection and it worked,,,,,,,,Praise Symantec and all you that helped.....Thanx............Gorpy1
Glad to get the good news.
Keep it that way ....
Thanks Hugh! I hope too........Best, Gorpy1
