Help needed..Non tech guy..norton not signing on to computer all of a sudden.. cant access web pages

Any help would be appreciated.  All of a sudden yesterday morning I turn in my computer and I cant get on my internet.  The logo for Norton in the lower right corner is no longer coming up and when i try to click on it manually from desktop it opens half way but freezes.  I verified with my ISP that my internet is working, my wireless router is working also. ( its a PC).  Oddly enough also my son can access AIM and chat with his friends so the internet is working, cant get on I explorer.  My ISP tech said he thinks its Norton doing this, maybe a firewall and it is a common issue lately.

Should I uninstall Norton?  should I try and let it open by itself and let it run its course even if it takes hours?  Im sort of stuck

Thanks

Just a thought - I had to reboot 2 times to get the Norton working after the 16.2 update.

Seemed a memory dump was going on the first time. Maybe just a unique circumstance for me?

Mikesurf,

I agree to what Vineeth has posted. As you are unable to access Internet in your computer and you are unable to see the settings of Norton program, download Norton removal tool from this LINK to another computer which has Internet access. Then transfer the same tool using pendrive/flash drive/RW-CD which ever is available. Also, check in your Norton Account and get the product information(which product you used) and the Product Key. This key may be required for reinstallation.

If you are able to access Internet after removing Norton program, please enable your Windows Firewall(Windows XP/Vista) so as to get protection for time being. It will be better if you unplug the Internet until you complete the installation of Norton program. You can re-enable the Internet connection after installation, it requires Internet for activation.

Ok guys.. well much thanks for all your help!  I got the link and saved it and loaded it onto my affected computer.  I removed Norton and it immediately fixed my issue regarding my internet.  I stil have to get Norton back on but in the meantime Im using the newest version under trial.

But thanks so much for the help...really appreciated.  Although its a bit disconcerting that teh program I use to prevent viruses and such was the actual cause of my problem!
