There are no issues in installing Norton 360 version 2.0 in an Windows Vista Ultimate (64 bit). Can yoy let us know the error message you receive while installing the Norton product? What do you mean by saying the Norton product does not work? Please provide us more information on this?

Hi, I was just told by a Norton support engineer that my Norton 360 2.5 is not compatible by Vista 64-bit. I’m experiencing constant symanter service framework faults. Sad to say but should have stayed in NIS2008 I had on my box.
Sorry, the correct sw version was 2.2(.0.2). Not 2.5
heres the error message i get Error 9999,17x failed to install norton 360. It’s telling to use the norton removal tool. i use it but i still get the same error. when the norton 360 is installing i get this “Symantec is gathering data to help resolve norton 360 installation error”
System File Checker - sfc /scannow
try running that in command prompt.
Then do a check disk.
See if either of those help.
Hi Rob,
Click Start>Run> In the Run dialogue box, type *temp% and click OK.
In the temp folder, you can see a url.txt file. Open the file and then you will be able to an error string. In the error string, let us know the a, b, e values. (for eg: a=1603)

PS: I may not be online after sometime, but I am sure Yogesh will be able to carry forward from this point once you provide the error values.
i see the url file but i dont understand after that? i copy the whole url file and posted here but i think a mod deleted it
Copy the contents of the Url.txt and send it as a Private Message to me. Click my name and in my profile, you will be able to find the option to send me a private message.
Dear all,
I do have exactly the same error. I try to install N 360 v2 on a brand new desktop PC with Intels I7 920 2,67 GHz, 1TB HD and 8 GB memory - Vista 64bit makes sense with that, I suppose.
I do not believe though it is not operating under Vista 64 at all as my previous installation of Vista Home Premium (pre-installed, with a 6 months NIS 2009, by manufacturer) is a 64bit Version, too.
So I managed flawlessly(!) to install N 360 v2 (provided by my telecom provider - therefore I did not keep NIS 2009) with that 64bit Home Premium. While upgrading to Ultimate this installation is yet tampered. Almost all components are flagged red and not operating. "Solving the problems" starts up some correction of options of 360v2 but fails.
I already rerolled three times the whole partition to its initial status :-( And I tried to migrate to Ultimate prior to installing N 360 v2. With that I saw it installing up to the Norton 360 component which was then followed by previoulsy already installed components and a staggering yet not really dimnishing status bar. In the end I get the same error as described and the solutions of that website do not work. (Even autofix fails, Norton Removal works, yet with no further solution to the installation issue.) I even disabled Windows Defender manually as I had observed that diabling the Windows security features is among the next steps at this stage of installation.
I make a guess but really need a bright idea of help. Is probably an enhanced security feature by Ultimate blocking the deinstallation of the Windows means of security and thus crashing the installation?
Hope to get some hints to work this out fast.
Hi TheFrank,
I had sent a Private Message to you with the same set of instructions that I had given to Rob323 who started that thread. Rob323 was able to resolve that issue by following these steps, I have got Private Message from Rob323 after following those steps. Please look for the in the upper right hand corner of any community (forum) page. Hope that may help you.
