help on choosing a firewall

I am looking for a good anti-virus / firewall package, I have used McAfee's for several years, and am thinking of switching back to Nortons (which I used before going to McAfee).  Here is my problem I need a firewall / anti-virus package that can be set to completely and totally silent mode.  One of the copies of the package that I buy is going to be put on my nephew's computer.  He lives in a group home and having pop-up windows alerting to problems (or supposed problems) will just create a lot of problems (aka headaches).  I would like to have the (supposed issues) that the firewall or antivirus finds be just logged so I can go look at them later, but let the firewall / anti-virus just decide on the fly what it should do without telling the end user, kind of a set it and forget it mode.

Does this exist in Norton internet security 2013?

Thanks
