Help Please - how do you cancel a scan in 360

When 360 informs me it is running a scan, can anyone tell me how to abort the scan.  I bring the menu up, but there is no “stop scan.”  I right click but my only option appears to be to shut off antivirus.  I run Vista.  Thank you.

Hi novone,

Welcome to Norton Community!

Which version of Norton 360 do you use? You can find it from Help & Support > About.

When do you get the message that it is running a scan? Did you try restarting the computer?

Thank you for your response.

Product Name: Norton 360

Version: 3.0.0.134

No I do not restart the computer when the scan is in process.  What I would like to do is to abort the scan.  However, I'm unsure of how to stop the scan.  Task Manager does not show an application in process, and I'm a little skittish about stopping a process.  All I want to do is that if a scan is running, and I need to work on the machine, to either suspend it or stop it.

Thank you again for your help.

Hi novone,

Norton 360 3.0 keeps your computer secure from ongoing threats by automatically running scans on your computer by using the Idle Time Scan feature. Idle Time Scan detects the time when you do not use your computer and intelligently runs scans depending on the scan history of your computer. Idle Time Scan automatically detects the idle state of your computer and runs Quick Scan and Full System Scan. These scans are transparent to the user and have little, if any, noticeable effect on system performance.

Let us know if you face any performance problem or problem with using any specific program when the scan runs in the background. If you have any such problem, turn off the Idle Time Scan and also disable the scheduled automatic scan in Norton 360. You cannot directly stop if the scan is already running in the background. You have to restart the computer to stop the scan and then turn off the Idle time Scan to avoid this in future. Then there won't be any scan running in the background. The Idle Time Scan provides sufficient protection to your computer by running a Full System Scan when your computer is idle. Symantec recommends you not to turn off the Idle Time Scan.
