I am trying to install Windows Live desktop mail as my email provider is no longer going to be providing email service. File Insight has removed my download. "setup-live.exe (WS.Reputation.1) This threat has been removed. Details - few users risk medium.
I dont know how to manually verify that this download is ok. I have downloaded it onto other computers and have had no issues and I know it is safe.
Can someone please help me and tell me what I need to do as this is the way I want to access my email and if I do not move my email from the MTS (Manitoba Telephone System) by June 1 I will no longer be able to receive / read any of my emails.
Thanks for the help and sorry if I am not going about this the correct way -- this is all very new to me.
My practice is to SAVE the download to a location where I can find it and then after it's downloaded to run it.
On VISTA or Windows 7 -- pleae say which you are using and what Norton product you have installed -- I usually start the installation of a file I trust by right mouse clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator
Unless that is exactly what you did would you try it -- Windows 7 will download by default to a folder called Downloads so if thei s where it shows after you click on Save that's where you will find it after the download is complete -- In fact you will probably be asked Do you want to open the Folder when the download completes ....
Do you have other email dowloaded onto your computer? If so do you know how to transfer that into your new Windows Live Mail?
The download was from my email provider's website. I am currently using XP and Norton Internet Security 2011. I tried to save the download to my desktop and was going to run it from there but file insight blocked it from being save to my desktop. I don't have any other email program on my computer as I always managed my email using the MTS server and know all my email will transfer over once I download windows live desktop. This is how we have the email set up at work and have had no problems with it what so ever. I do use outlook on our family computer to manage the email also but never installed it on my laptop.
I wonder if that's a dedicated version from your email provider? How about asking them and telling them you are having problems.
I wonder what happens if you use the direct link to Microsoft? The link I gave was to the US site but you can probably log onto the Canadian site from where you are?
I'm not really skilled in this area so hang on for some advice from others who may have run into the problem.
Thanks for trying to help Hugh. I ended up disabling my auto protect long enough to get the download onto my desktop and was able to install from there. I get so easily confused and frustrated when it comes to the computer but do appreciate any help or suggestions sent my way. For now all is good and once again thanks.
A better way of dealing with this issue is to temporarily turn off Download Intelligence in Norton's Web Settings. This will stop the insight scan without losing the protection of Auto-Protect. The Insight scan is based on a file's reputation and is somewhat imprecise. Auto-Protect uses signatures and heuristics and is less prone to false positives.
