Hi All
This is my first post here, so please forgive me if I am not abiding by usual web-etiquet. I have already looked for and tried all the solutions recomended for this and similar problems online. I have had my Laptop PC for a number of years now and have never before experienced a broblem like this . Having logged off as normal yesterday evening, upon booting my PC this morning I recieved the following message:
-------------------------------------
Windows failed to Start. A Recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To Fix the problem:
1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restore your computer.
2. choose your language settings, and click "next"
3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system adiministrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Windows\system32\drivers\NAVx64\1206000.01D\SYMEFA64.SYS
Status:0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.
-------------------------------
I understand that this file is a Norton AV driver. I used my Windows Boot Disk to access "load drivers" and checked the root directory, and the file does indeed appear to be missing. The following are the drivers present in this directory:
Iron
srtspx64
symefa
symnetv
srtsp64
symds
symnet
Is there any way ANY WAY, that I can get a hold of the correct drivers. I CANNOT afford to format my hard disk. I have already tried system restore, as well as various forms of reboot (Safe mode/safe mode with networking etc.) but each time it lands on the same error screen. alternatively is there any way that I can bypass/remove Norton from the list of bootable drivers using the command prompt. This would allow me to unistall/reinstall Norton Anti-virus.
Please, any help would ne greatly appreciated.
Kindest Regards
Andy
