Help W32.Downadup.B and W32.SillyFDC!

Hi there first time posting something here and im in need of some help.

Just yesterday i plugged a USB device into my computer which had W32.Downadup.B on it, Nortons quickly snagged it after it had done 2 Threat Actions. Not long after (2 minutes) Nortons picked up and snagged W32.SillyFDC the Threat Actions performed by W32.SillyFDC were 465 actions. Nortons quickly snagged it and repaired/removed whatever damage and harm it had caused.

After Nortons picked up both viruses and fixed them it asked me to do a restart which i did.

But im still worried im not sure how well Nortons deals with these two threats. Is Nortons fully upgraded to protect against these two threats?

Ive run many Full System Scans along with other Custom Scans and computer restarts, they have found nothing. Its been just over 12 hours since they were picked up by Nortons on my computer and there have been no more detections or fishy programs running.

My computer is updated very often along with my Nortons. Ive looked up and read a lot of information reguarding these two viruses on the Nortons Websites. People are saying to get W32.downadup.b removal tools but im just wondering if i need them seeing as most of the post on those topics were quite old.

Please help me. Thanks!

I hope this is the correct board to post these kind of issues in. If its not could someone please direct me to the correct place?

Thanks.

Hi FaceMask,

This is the correct board.

If after some time goes by and if there is a re-occurrence of these viruses, you may need to go to a removal forum. If that comes to be, register with one of the below forums for removal of the infection(s).

Hopefully, Norton caught everything. In the event it didn't, these are the forums to go to. They are expert at what they do.

Hi Edjr60

Thank you soo much for replying to my post!

Thank you for that information i will be sure to check it out.

I just went to the Cyber Tech Help site you mentioned and searched for Conficker help, i went through and found a Conficker Eye Chart Test to see if i my system was infected by anything and it seemed the test came up clear that i was either not infected or using a Proxy (which im not).

And if there isnt any re-occurrence of these viruses am i safe to assume that its gone?

Is there anyway i can tell for sure Norton got it all?

I hope that Nortons got it all, if it hasnt is there any Norton Tools out there that i could use?

Hi FaceMask,

I am not expert at viruses or malware. My best advice is to keep a close watch on your system. Keep everything updated as you said you do. Perhaps bookmark this page that contain the Removal Forums, 'just in case'.

Something else you could do is to download the Free version of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free Scanner. It's completely compatible with your Norton product because it has no real time component.

Download and keep on your desktop for on demand scans at any time. Be sure to manually update it every couple of days. Run a scan once a week for a second opinion along with your Norton scans.

This is the link .. be sure and deny the 14 day trial offer.

In reguards to the viruses being in Quarantine by Nortons what is the best case of action to do with them?

Hi FaceMask,

Here is an article on Quarantined Items in Security History.

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v6200305_NAV_SOS_2013_en_us?layout=Retail&product=home&pvid=f-home&q=quarantined+items+2013&version=current

Awesome thanks for that Ed, the information about the Quarantine leaves me with two questions.

It says:

Remove from history

Removes the selected item from the Security History log.

Does that mean it just clears the history and not the actual item?

And is it safe to just leave the infected items in the Quaratine?

This is what it says in the article ...

Quarantined items are isolated from the rest of your computer so that they cannot spread or reinfect your computer ...

You cannot open quarantined items accidentally and spread the virus ...

Remove from history ...  Removes the selected item(s) from the Security History log ....

Whichever way you want to go. Personally, I would remove the items. These are not items you want to restore.

Thanks Ed for all the information and help. I also recieved help from another experienced member of the Norton Team.

I can sleep well knowing that the people at Nortons protect us from threats such as these.

Thank you for all your help!

Hi FaceMask,

I was glad to be of some assistance. It's good you received additional help also. As long as it resolves your issue, which is the most important aspect.

Much luck to you in the future.

Report back with any other Norton related problems should they arise.
