Help! Where have my programs gone after installing NIS?

Did you manually run liveupdate until there were no updates left, rebooting when prompted ? If so, that should put you at the most current NIS 2012 ... version 19.9.0.9.

To be sure click Support > About.

Also click Support > Subscription Status to sync the number of days remaining on your subscription.

Edjr60… I didn’t but I went to check what u said now and it was version 20.1.1.2. Just in case I still ran update manually as u did. Also I checked the subscription status and it updated it. U r really thorough and helpful. I appreciate this a lot. Thanks.

Did you want to upgrade to NIS 2013, because that's what version 20.1.1.2 is ?

We thought you wanted to stay at NIS 2012, but that's up to you. You might want to take a look around the forums and see the problems people are having with the 2013 versions.

If you start having problems, we'll be here, even if it means helping you get back to the 2012 version.

Wishing you the best.

Thanks. I don't think I did this. And now NIS does not even open for me to check. It says "entry point" lost or unspecified and the like error messages. So can I proceed without this step? By uninstalling NIS through control pannel and then through uninstall tool and the rest? by the way where can i get the uninstall tool of norton like the one u gave me for mccafe.

Too many cooks .... I'm completely lost as to where you are.

I hope you have ended up with a working installation as you want it but like others I thought you wanted to stick with NIS 2012.

Do you want to use the Identity Safe from now on? If you do you will only have what is called the "Online Vault" (the file with all the login information in it) saved on the Norton Servers "in the clouds" which means scattered around the world for safety but you will not have a freely useable "local vault" on your computer as well that is kept synchronized with the Online one.

If you feel the local vault is important then you have to go back to the 2012 installation where the Version begins with 19, not 20, and create the local vault; then when you upgrade to 2013 it will stll be there.

Because I did not register my key when I used it first time yesterday I could not retrieve it from my account on Norton today, so I had to put the CD in again and re-enter key. I think this might cause me one trial of teh key (maybe now I can only use it on 1 more device rather than another 2 as it suppose to be). If this was the case I might go to my local store and complain about the situation. They might then give me one more trial for the third device we have at home.

As for your key you did not need to insert the disk -- the KEY should be printed on the package unless you got it from a (legitmate) source in some locations where the activation is done at checkout when you buy it, or by some other means specific to the place you bought it from -- and I hope it did not copy files and make a new installation from the disk.

If you did use an additonal activation I already told you what to do so don't blame the store and they can't do anything about it -- Norton OnLine Support can deal with it easily if you follow the instructions I gave. But you can check in your MyNortonAccount and that will tell you how many you have used and how many are left.

Oh! I did not realize all these problems. All what I wanted is to be protected whether 12 or 13. The one I bought was 12 but when I went to About to check it was the version that starts with 20! As regarding the safety mode or gate, I have no clue about this or if I should want it or not. m I not protected now with the 20 version? I will not blame store anymore. I just want to go on with my work and study. So what should I do at this point?

The Identity Safe is an optional feature concerned with logging into places like OnLine Banking and is just a way to make it easier for the user.

You are protected by Norton Internet Security against malware and so on if you installed it correctly and it is running OK. Do you see any red X's or Yellow ! or do you see a green checkmark on the Norton icon? When you open the main Norton Screen on your desktop does it say you need to fix anything?

If you see that green check mark the it's running OK and you should be protected but remember:

The greatest danger to your computer lies between the left ear and the right ear of the user ....

So practice safe computing ....

If you are not happy about what you see then tell us what seems to be wrong and we will try to help but there's a limit to what we can do without seeing the PC ....

Huwynger, Thanks a lot for following up with me this far given that I was not clearly read around the forum on previous problems. I really tried then gave up from the many threads. My norton is installed correctly as it shows all the green checkmarrks and I did scans and it fixed tar king cookies. Nothing looks out of ordinary. It feels smooth and even little more responsive. (I am heavy user of many programs at same time due to my work and study). So all seems fine. Regarding the Identity Safe, I read about it now and will examine if I want to use it. I was suspicious before of things similar to this because I like privacy and hate my passwords to be protected out there in clouds. But idont know about it so I cant judge. Will read more and decide to use if suits me. Oh I just checked my norton account it says: licensed installs 3, available installs 2. Does that mean I still have 2 for the other devices?

Looks like you are home and dry -- yes it's only used one activation. It often recognizes that it's the same PC since they record some information to stop piracy by mulitple users.

If you don't have a large number of password protected logins I'd keep it simple and store them in a safe place -- make your passwords as strong as you can anyway.

Great. Thanks for this advice I will change to stronger ones it’s time. I cannot thank u enough. And all who helped all through. :).
