Help with 1st time encounter with a possible false positive?

Hello everyone!

I have been running Malwarebytes in conjunction with NIS since last December without issue until this week when NIS detected adware.keenval in Malwarebytes :

c:\program files (x86)\ malwarebytes' anti-malware \00030102.tmp

This is the first time I have encountered this, and there is a chance it might be what I believe is known as a false positive.  However when I restored it to my system (in the hope of sending it off for analysis) I could not find it using Windows File Explorer.  Then last night NIS detected another similar file in the same location.  Although I cannot detect anything untoward (I have run several common filenames associated with keenval through Explorer which have yielded nothing), it would put my mind at rest if I could track it down and send it to Symantec for analysis.

Has anyone any advice for tracking down a .tmp file (I feel a bit jittery about releasing suspect files from quarantine if they are to become undetectable)?  Or should I just leave things as they are?  As I mentioned I am new to all of this so any help would be gratefully received

Hi Alcste, and welcome. If you can access the file, you can submit it to Symantec via this link

If Norton has quarantined the file, then you are quite safe as it cannot access your system.

A scan by MalwareBytes Free version only and Norton as well, can confirm your system is clean.

We do not recommend using MalwareBytes in real time, as this can cause conflicts with both programs jumping in and trying to catch the same malware.

thanks :)
