A week ago or so I formatted this laptop I'm currently using and installed Norton Internet Security 2010. For as long as I know, I haven't run into any kind of problem whatsoever. Nevertheless, yesterday, while my brother was using it to listen to music online ( I can only suppose it's those types of sites where you can watch the original video along with the song ) a Trojan alert popped up. I came over to check what it was since Norton seemed to have caught the little bugger and didn't worry at all since it was not rated as dangerous. If I remember correctly, Norton got to run a scan and said it hadn't found anything. It had something to do with a flash plugin.
Anyway, after he turned the laptop off, I could not get it back on without forcing the power on/off button because windows freeze. Once I did that, a windows 7 security tool said it was required to run a scan in order to determine what the problem was. Once that was done, my brother's account on windows got deleted as well as every trace of it having ever been there. Not only that but Norton seemed to have gone haywire. Turned himself off and on again and an error message came up, something about having had problems after installing Norton.
The laptop seems to be just fine now but just to be on the safe side, I'm going to format and reinstall everything. I really haven't had any problems in terms of security but should I look into it a bit more? Maybe install some other program which can be used along with Norton or something alike. Furthermore, my dad recently bought Norton 360 online. Would I be better off if I installed that one instead? I know it's got backup/optimization options but what's most important to me really is security.
Finally, as I've said previously, my dad bought Norton 360 online here and has even transferred the money but we haven't received any kind of message. He received one telling him about the account he was supposed to send the money to but apart from that, nothing. He did it either on the 28 or 29th of December. Should I be worried for not having received any information up until now? ( Sorry if it is a bit off topic )
Anyway, thanks in advance to whoever's able to give me a hand.
