Help with new DELL Precision Workstation Set up: Config OS/Prog on C:/ Data on D:/

Hello to All,

My new T3600 Dell precision workstation  is configured with a boot 256 GB SSD for OS (WIN 7 Pro 64 bit) and an internal 1 TB drive. I anticipate loading the programs on the SSD and data on 1 TB.  My current Ghost image is about 70 GB so plenty of space. In prior postings forum members have recommended separating OS/Programs and Data.

I have 3 External HDs that are part of the old system that I will move to new PC. The image back ups have gone well and I use A drive that stays with PC and rotate B and C drives as offsite. I have never had to restore an image but am working on that as a separate post.. It would be terrific to get a restore to work to prove my backup regimen is reliable.

Since I am placing data only on the 1 TB drive I will need to direct the program files to save data on say drive "D." Is the separation of data on the 1 TB (D) drive going to be a problem in the operation of the programs which will reside on the bootable SSD say drive "C"? I have read that the boot drive and programs should be on the same drive to avoid confusing the program files and to take advantage of the speed of the SSD.

I have never split up the OS/Programs and Data on separate drives so I want to get this correct the first time.

Looking forward to the speed of the SSD.

Any  helpful hints would be appreciated.

Thanks

Bob
