Help with streaming through Chrome cast

I am using window 7 home premium. I am trying to use an app for streaming to my tv. I can only do this with google chrome cast. I installed the new version of chrome and it won't load and I get a pop up saying "unspecified error" . Tryed to uninstall and I get a pop up that says to close all google windows and try again. I normally use windows on my laptop and would like to use chrome also. Both Google and Windows forums that I have posted this problem to suggest that it is a problem with my antivirus software. Any suggestions from the Norton Comm. would be appreciated.
Thanks for any help!

Hi pmo3ws,
Are you using NIS?
Tried disabling smart firewall and check if that works?

Thanks CV, and yea I do have Norton and turned off the firewall and still can't uninstall Google or bring up Crome. Getting the same error messages.

Try going into control panel in safe mode and try uninstalling again.
Use event viewer of Windows and please post back the error details.

How to uninstall in safe mode? I mean how do I pull up safe mode for uninstalling? And do I also turn off N antivirus also?

Hai,
Just after the BIOS boot screen( the screen which you see just after pressing power button) disappears, press the F8 function key on key board.
.
That will bring up the advanced boot screen of windows or to boot device select option.
.
If the first said screen appears, then there you can see the different options. Select the safe mode. That will boot you to safe mode. From there use control panel to uninstall chrome app.
.
The below link will help you to boot to safe mode in various ways.

Yay and thanks! Got Google Chrome uninstalled. Now I am going to turn off Norton antivirus and firewall and try reinstalling Chrome. I'm trying to connect to my Chromecast with google chrome so I can stream to my tv. Internet Explorer would not let me, with this particular app, so hopefully with Chrome I can. I will def come back here and let you know if it works. If it does, I will mark as solved.

Take your time.
FYI:
If your IE is ver 11, then the enhanced protection mode (aka epm) would be causing the trouble with chrome cast app. Turning epm Off may help in that case.

I have Version 7 homepremium and also want to mension that when I sign in to my computer, I sign in under my daughter's password.  This is what's happening... I open chrome and it goes to Chrome://chrome-signin/?source=0 and it just "loads" and then a pop up appears with Unresponsive and asks to either Kill the page or wait. I have clicked on both and it won't go any further. Do I maybe need to disable windows? If so how would I do that and and once done, can I enable windows again cause that is what I prefer using.

Hi,
“If your IE is ver 11, then the enhanced protection mode (aka epm) would be causing the trouble with chrome cast app.”
IE stands for internet explorer.
.
.
I sign in under my daughter’s password.
.
Is it that you are having two user accounts in your computer or you meant to say about email id?
.
Google chrome browser has an option to link your google account (email-id@gmail.com) to chrome browser. This helps to track your browsing in your email account, enhance google’s services, synchronize browser accross different systems etc.
Thats not of much concern anyway.
.
.
“Do I maybe need to disable windows?”
.
Do you mean by it disabling Windows7 home premium, which is your Operating system? Thats not possible anyway.
.
.
Can you tell us the version of google chrome browser (go to corner top right in google chrome browser, click the 3 parallel line icon there [ the Chrome menu on the browser toolbar ], select help in dropdown list. It will display the version) and how you meant going to use it to connect it to your chrome cast and tv.
Google chrome browser needs the Google Cast Extension or similar addon and that your system is on same wireless network as of chromecast to stream multimedia to tv…
.
Lastly if you cannot access chrome settings or type any url in google chrome browser address bar then i suggest you to download a new setup of google chrome browser from:
https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/?platform=win

using internet explorer or any browser.
Uninstall your current google chrome browser from control panel, restart the system, use Ccleaner to clean the junk files ( visit : https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner to download).
Warning:! Donot use its registry option.
Now execute the downloaded installer of google chrome.

Post back your results.

I followed your instuctions exactly and the very same result. Also, when I click on Chrome, a "User Account Control" pops up and asks "Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer" I click yes and that is when it goes to the Chrome page. The chrome page won't load completely, it just spins at the upper left had corner.Eventually it gives me an unresponsive pop up and when I click on the help from the drop down box, it does the same thing. Also I tried clicking to find out what version of chrome and it does not tell me.

:womanvery-happy:Found the fix! I was reading this article- http://blogs.computerworld.com/desktop-apps/20965/why-google-chrome-would-not-start and went to properties by right clicking on chrome shortcut and in the compatability tab mine was set to XP 7, so I simply went to the windows 7 only and checked marked it and Chrome opened!

I want to thank you for all your help all this week. One good thing is that my computer is cleaned up now.

Happy to hear things went okay.
Usually, google chrome browser does not ask for UAC permission.
I dont know how that google chrome was having compactablity settings changed.
.
Any way that was not an issue with NIS.
Happy surfing and streaming…
