I recently upgraded my Norton Online Family software to the latest version, so that it would be compatible with Firefox 4.01 and 5.x. Ever since doing this, every time my child is using the web she is getting repeated warnings about an Uncatagorized website:
sometimes the last 3 digits of the IP address will change (I have seen similar warnings for .177 and .178 as well) If I try to go to the site, I get a blank page. I tried looking it up in ip.org but all it shows is that the address is somewhere in LA - this concerns me because I am in OR. This message even pops up when she is not actively using the PC, as I have received notifications that the site was being contacted in the middle of the night - she was sleeping but the PC was ON. I do have Norton Security 2011 running on the machine, all definitions and scans are up to date and it is not showing any virus or malware threats, so hopefully that is not the cause of this
Has anyone else had this problem? Any idea if it is a threat? If so, what to do? And if not, how to stop this from repeatedly occurring?
I was doing some research on my own on this subject and I think maybe these sites are the IP of Hosting sites that the actual website being visited is on - the website http://www.domaintools.com/ lets you plug in the IP address and see who controls it. This alone may not tell you much, but it also has a "Reverse IP" tool that will show sites connected to the IP address. While there is a monthly fee for using this part of the service, it will still show you 3 or so, and I noticed on the IP I mention above, there are several music/video sites - that is probably whet my daughter was on - the question is now "Why is family Online alerting about the hosting site rather than the actual website visited?" FYI, we are using Mozilla Firefox browser
You said "every time my child is using the web she is getting repeated warnings about an Uncatagorized website", is there a particular website that the child visits, then the child receives the warning?
Also you said "the site was being contacted in the middle of the night - she was sleeping but the PC was ON", was the browser on and which website was displayed on the browser?
