Help

Help I urgently need to speak to someone about my renewal but I can’t find any way to contact Norton. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hi, alma,

Please could you provide the Web Link to the Form you are filling in.  Thanks!

Did you buy Norton from shop? check in the cd case for a cd serial.

If you have installed Norton already the serial code is saved on your computer in the Symantec folder.

When you go into your Norton account online, you have to click on the product that is registered there.  Then the activation key for that product will show.  Just write it down and save it until your email is done.

What is the phone make and model?  When did you install NMS?  Do you what version of NMS you have installed?  Have you tried any of your standard password?

I'm experiencing the same prob

I have a Motorola Photon 4G from Sprint running (im sure) the latest version of Gingerbread.

I downloaded a new update (pretty sure it was NMS -- required a weird system restart & pause) Then when I restarted the phone it said I was locked out because my SIM card had changed (BS).

I either didn't set up my PW & buddies or I forgot them. None of my standard PWs work -- nothing I woulda made it. I need to use my phone. This is very annoying not being able to use it or uninstall this program to reinstall it.

HELP!

I have a Motorola phone too, and had something similar happen shortly after I bought it. Did you try to secure or manage the SIM card, or maybe set a SIM card unlock code? If you’re seeing a message about “PUK lock” it’s not NMS, it’s your phone’s SIM card security. To test that out, try removing your SIM card and restarting (should be in back, in the battery compartment); if that’s what happened, you should be able to get back into your phone with the phone password you THOUGHT you had set once the PUK-locked SIM card is removed. Then to restore international functionality, you’ll have to buy a new SIM card (about $35 and available from anyplace you can buy Sprint phones. But in the meantime, your phone will work just fine on US networks.

It shouldn't be a SIM issue. The update is no doubt what effed up my entire phoning experience.

I'm going to try a factory reset & see if that works. Taking the SD card out now!

I'm not sure if I'll reinstall NMS after this. It's been such a pain. I guess it worked at keeping SOMEONE out thought! Too bad I paid what I paid for NMS! Some kinda recovery via gmail or something would be nice.

Hi Ramseys2,

I'm sorry to see you are having issues with Norton after the update. If you have not yet completed a factory reset I have sent you a private message on how to unlock your device. Could you please help us by providing what version of NMS you have installed? Was this an upgraded LITE version from the Android Market or one that your purchased elsewhere?

Hi Ian,

I'm sorry you're having this problem. It sounds like you have a web based email account [hotmail, gmail, etc] none of the Norton products can protect you there. They are designed to keep your computer safe.

To limit the damage being done by your compromised account please change your password, AND change the responses to your security questions. Often one of the answers is changed by the bad guys so they can return to do more damage. Your password should contain numbers, upper and lower case letters and special characters. It should also make absolutely noo sense to anyone but you.

Hope this helps

PS: Since you are using 360 I will ask a moderator to move this thread to that forum so it will get better exposure and possibly additional, and better , assistance.

  • My Norton 360 wont work. I try to fix the problem, but it wont work. One Click Support says that Norton had a 3040,20063 error. I tried what they said online and running live update, but it didn't work. So can you help me, please?

Hi,

Before trying to Uninstall & Reinstall, just restart your PC once and try running LU untill it says no updates.

Most cases this would solve the issue, if not then proceed with the post given by DICK.

HenryG,

Welcome to the Norton community!

Please use caution when disabling your security software when installing software. Here are some tips that may help keep you safe and also problem free.

1- Use an image backup program before installing new software, take a new image prior to installs so a worry free return to a working system can be done.

2- I would not recommend disabling any part of your security software while doing an internet download/install

3- If you feel a temporary disabling of security software is prudent, first disconnect from the internet then proceed with the install, re-enabling security before re-connecting to the internet

I maintain a very "normal" home PC and a lap-top, I have been using Norton NIS for a number of years, I have never had to disable the product in any way to install any software on my PC's, even though it has many times been suggested.

You have not mentioned what OS you are using, Windows 7 for example has a built in image backup software all you need is another drive (internal or external) to save your back-ups.

Good luck -- Bill

Hi HenryG,

Please follow Betme's excellent advice.  The only times you may want to consider disabling Auto-Protect is when installing major updates to your operating system, such as Service Packs.  Otherwise, there is really no point in running an antivirus program if you are not going to let it monitor new software that is installing.  How do you think you get infected in the first place?

Gentleman, Thank you very much for your help.  I could'nt find the Norton icon in the upper right of the screen to click on but will keep looking.  Betme..Great advice. I did as you said and printed all the replies for future refference and the adobe photoshop program loaded just fine. I just wondered why they tell you to disable a protection program first, that's just asking for trouble.  Lastly, right!  It's always a very bad idea to shut down your protection for any reason which is why I've never done that, unless disconnected from the web.  Once again Thank You

HenryG

Henry,

ferenzz was referring to the bottom right corner of the screen next to where the clock is -- it's an area called the System Tray and very likely contains an icon for the Norton product that you can right mouse click on and get those choices.

But what appears there is partly optional so if you don't see that icon on the bottom bar of the screen click on the ^ up arrow / customize / find the reference on the list of products to Norton and change what it says there to Always show .....

That should do it for future use.

But as said, it's best not to disable anything -- it's generations since I had a problem between installation or updating an application and my security program.

There is one circumstance when you should disable those items and that is if you need to do a windows function called System Restore which puts the settings etc of Windows back to an earlier moment in time. Then you should disable those functions as described since otherwise Norton can end up non-funtional because it finds itself with some files (from that earlier date) that its records say should not be there and it gets confused!

But let's hope you don't have to do a system restore  ....

If you have a problem you know where to find us ....

HenryG,

Most software vendors worry about a security software "hidering" proper installation of a product, I kind of think of these continuing request as "outdated". Nothing is infallible but Symantec has been a leader in working "with" how we use our PC's this helps the user experience.

Also thanks to huwyngr for pointing out the one known instance with Windows system restore, I forgot to include that in my reply above.

As said please stop back if you need anything, it's a great group here -- Bill

When installing new programs they say "turn off other programs including resident anti virus and firewall applications".

How do I temporarily turn off  norton so i can safely install other programs? Can't find it in the manual.

any help on this is appreaciated.  Thanks

Where did you purchase your subscription? If directly from Norton, the subscription is active as soon as your payment has been made.

If not directly from Norton, did you install 360 and enter your product key during the installation?
