A year ago this week I purchased for my parents a 3-pack of Norton Internet Security 2009 (1 User/3 PC).
Thanks to the good folks on this forum, I knew back then to have my keys handled with my online Norton account, making it easier to deal with the keys and quicker access to the keys if needed. My folks have (still) only installed the product on a single machine, which is fine. I want to keep a 3 PC account active, and I want to keep ongoing subscriptions for all three, since they have two other computers that I'll install it upon when I am there for Memorial Day weekend.
(Please bear with me: That single machine is my elderly parent's computer several states distance away, and I am now trying to help them re-up the subscription which ends this week. So the Norton product is not in front of me.)
When I log in to my Norton account (from the Web) I can see that my product is "Norton Internet Security" (no year listed) and that I have 2 remaining activations. It shows me my product key and product serial number. Expiration date: April 10, 2010.
Here are my questions: (keep in mind, the computer on which NIS 2009 is installed is 500 miles from me...)
(1) Since NIS 2010 is out now, does my current product license allow me to update from NIS 2009 to NIS 2010? (I am thinking 'no' on that one.)
(2) Surprisingly, from the MyAccount area, it does not offer me an option to renew my subscription. I have to go to symantecstore.com on my own in another browser. Here's where it gets even weirder. In that store, I can see that I can purchase:
NIS 2010 w/Norton Utilities --- 1 yr ---- $59.99
or
Norton Antivirus 2010 ---- 1 yr ---- $39.99
or
1-year Norton Internet Security 2009 subscription reneal ---- $54.99
or (I am really not kidding about all of these, so far... and it gets better)
NIS 2010 1-year w/Norton Utilities -- $79.99 which seems the be the same as the first option above?
(3) So, eh .. err .. huh? Which should I pick so that I can continue with a subscription for all three licenses, even if I have not yet installed two of those licenses?
(4) Am I basically screwed if I renew now (which must be done this week) but have not *yet* installed on 2 activations?
I appreciate any insights or help on getting the best situation for the best price. And thanks!!
