Hello @David_Rose1

AI Overview
Yes, your network preferences can prevent content from loading privately in some situations, forcing you to choose “Download Directly”. This often happens with Apple’s Mail app, particularly if you are using Mail Privacy Protection
Mail Privacy Protection:
This feature on Apple devices tries to hide your IP address from email senders to protect your privacy. It does this by routing some content through a secure channel, which can conflict with certain network configurations.
Conflict with Network Settings:
If your network is configured to block traffic on certain ports or domains used by Mail Privacy Protection, or if you’re using a VPN, it can interfere with the private loading process.
Pi-hole:
Some users experience issues with Pi-hole (a DNS blocker) preventing iCloud Private Relay from bypassing it, which can also cause private loading issues.
Troubleshooting:
CheckMail Privacy Protection settings:
In Apple Mail, go to Settings > Mail > Privacy and see if “Hide IP” is enabled. If it is, try disabling it to see if that resolves the issue.
Adjust network settings:
If you’re using a VPN or have custom firewall rules, ensure they don’t block traffic used by iCloud Private Relay or Mail Privacy Protection.
Check Pi-hole settings:
If you use Pi-hole, ensure it’s not blocking iCloud Private Relay domains.
Manual download:
You can manually download content by tapping “Load Content” when prompted in an email.
