Hoax or not

This message keeps popping up on computer.  Is it a hoax or should we follow directions?

Error: "3039,69635" appears on my Norton 2010 product

To fix this problem, uninstall and reinstall your Norton product. Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product.
If you downloaded your product from your service provider, you do not have a Product Key. Please skip this step and continue with Step 2.
If you have a CD version, you can find your Product Key at the back of the CD sleeve. For your download purchase, you can find it in the confirmation email from Symantec. After you write down the Product Key, go to Step 2.

Hello md2020

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum

Can you please tell us what Norton product you are using and the version number? What operating system and service pack level and is it 32 or 64 bit? Are you having a problem with your Norton product?

t sounds like a legitimate Norton popup advising that there has been an error or problem in a Norton component.  Have you just recently installed 2010, or have you downloaded the latest version of 2010?

What is the version number under help and support>about.  It should start with 17.

With a current subscription, you are eligible to upgrade for free to the 2011 version.  You will need a link to the removal tool, and a link to the latest download for either 2010 or 2011, whichever you decide to install.  Let us know which one you would prefer.

You can try and run One Click Support (or just Support) from the Help menu.  This will guide you through the proper steps to fix this problem.
